Members of the group are involved in the entire cycle of technology research and development, from initial concept ideation, program shaping and proposal development, through execution (including prototype development, integration, and test) and transition of research concepts to BAE Systems' business areas and products.
We are seeking Senior Principal Scientist for our Edge and Spectral Artificial Intelligence (AI) research group. Our research interests include radio frequency (RF), machine learning (ML), cognitive electronic warfare (EW), cognitive radio, cognitive signals intelligence (SIGINT), trustworthy AI, novel learning methodologies, and adaptive decision making and control across distributed systems, among others. These technologies are applied to several different product domains, such as tactical radios, cognitive communications, radar, electronic warfare (EW), spectrum sensing, and SIGINT. Successful candidates will be involved in multiple research programs with roles including technical leadership, technical development, customer interaction, program management, or new concept development. Most programs involve teams comprised of academical strong scientists and engineers across multiple disciplines.
Senior principal scientists a) are interested in participating in the design, development, execution and implementation of research projects, 2) apply scientific principles and concepts to the development of prototype capabilities, 3) contribute to external publications and/or invention disclosures, 4) contribute to proposals and technical reports. This position will require virtual and in-person collaboration with customers and staff across BAE Systems ES facilities.
This position can be based out of our Merrimack, NH; Burlington, MA; or Arlington, VA facilities, though it will require collaboration with staff across our business areas and facilities in the Northeast.
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely, or an on-site format.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• Doctorate with 4+ years, a Master's Degree with 6+ years or a Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of multi-disciplinary professional research experience
• Active DoD Secret clearance with ability to attain DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.
• Core competency in at least one of the following technical field: Cognitive EW, RF Machine Learning, and/or Trustworthy AI
• Leads the design, development and execution of innovative scientific solutions to complex technical problems.
• Supports the development of strategic roadmaps, plans and executes research of complex scope regularly involving multiple technical fields.
• Experience as a principal investigator for medium (3-5 person) research efforts, coordinating technical program performance with leadership and functional engineering managers.
• Supports external discussions with customers and subcontracting partners in order to support technical execution, risk and opportunity management.
• Mentors less experienced staff on technical skillsets.

• Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.
• Supervisory experience with small number of Scientists
• Participates in professional societies
• Active Top Secret / SCI clearance

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $126610 - $215270
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
