Ready to make a difference? Our employees design, integrate, and test the world's next generation communication and electronic warfare systems for the United States DoD and international customers. You will be among the brightest minds, working on the aerospace and defense industry's most difficult problems. Drawing strength from our differences, we're innovating for the future. We put our customers first - exemplified by our mission: "We Protect Those Who Protect Us®." Sound like a team you want to be a part of? Come build your career with us.
BAE Systems' Mission Assessments (MA) organization is revolutionizing how mission-level operational analysis is planned, executed, and delivered. The Mission Assessments organization was created to address the rapidly increasing demand for mission-level operational analysis. Our mission is to achieve excellence in multidomain (MDO), systems-of-systems (SoS) Mission Assessments and effectively communicate the value of BAE Systems products to customers, DoD leadership and the warfighter. To do this we must bring together models of advanced technologies, weapons, platforms, and threats in relevant mission simulations - and then apply our deep subject matter expertise and experience to deliver assessments that can change the world.
BAE Systems is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Mission Area Study Lead to join the Mission Assessments team to provide technical direction to teams performing operational analysis. A Mission Area Study Lead is responsible for working directly with internal and external customers to understand the requirements, design the approach for an analysis study, lead technical reviews, and be responsible for the technical output. Study Leads are also responsible for leading Internal Research and Development (IR&D) efforts and leading internal working groups working to close M&S capability gaps.
The Mission Area Study Lead reports to the MA Technical Director. They work with the MA Tech Director, other Study Leads, and Study Managers to direct operational analysis studies executed by MA Analysts using a wide variety of DoD and BAE-developed modeling, and simulation tools. Each Study Lead will be responsible for a portfolio of work aligned with a particular Mission Area and BAE Systems product lines, and the portfolio can be tailored to a Study Lead's expertise and mission area affinity. The Study Lead should have a deep understanding of BAE Systems technology areas such as integrated Electronic Warfare (EW) systems including Electronic Attack (EA), Electronic Protection (EP) and Electronic Support (ES) for RF sensing, detection, identification, geolocation, and jamming; infrared (IR) imaging, guidance, survivability and targeting; C4ISR for actionable intelligence including SIGINT, EO/IR, Multi-INT, and hyperspectral solutions; and information technologies including fusion and dynamic mission battle management.
The ideal Mission Area Study Lead candidate has experience with DoD missions, operational analysis or threat analysis, modeling and simulation, and/or EW technologies. Study Lead candidates should have experience providing leadership and mentoring of teams of junior engineers or analysts, experience presenting technical results to senior leaders, and have experience being responsible for a team's technical output.
Responsibilities include:
- Interface with customers, especially product line or business area technical directors and other technical staff, as the primary POC to scope and provide technical leadership for MA studies and tasks
- Identify validation approaches for MA study results
- Responsible for the technical execution and subject matter expertise of a portfolio of MA studies and tasks
- Take direction from the MA Tech Director and MA Engineering Lead regarding tradecraft, prioritization, and execution of studies and tasks within their portfolio
- Work with Study Managers to execute MA studies and tasks by providing direction and feedback to Analysts
- Brief study and task outputs, providing recommendations and expertise to product line and business area tech directors, other BA technical staff, and external customers to help drive technology development and adoption
- Work with MA leadership team to identify needed capabilities and set technical roadmaps to fill capability gaps
- Build and contribute to IR&D plans, identify IR&D needs and priorities, and lead IR&D technical execution
- Lead working groups made up of Analysts to solve MA hard problems and fill capability needs
- Responsible for growing MA across BAE Systems by inserting MA into external programs, and capturing MA studies from internal product lines
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed fulltime on site. This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Active Secret Clearance and ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI and SAP clearances
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and 12+ years technical experience (MS and 10+ years preferred).

- Critical thinking skills that will be exercised across multiple levels of detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communications skills ranging from technical briefings to executive level presentations.
- Experience developing and using analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or similar tools.
