Who we are:
The All Domain Autonomy directorate is a leading multidisciplinary R&D department dedicated to meeting critical U.S. military needs. Our directorate specializes in R&D of innovative autonomy approaches spanning Air, Land, Maritime, and Space domains, human-machine teaming, machine-machine teaming, and advanced computing across a variety of domains for customers in the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC). Our research spans the R&D lifecycle, from basic and applied research up through advanced technology demonstration to transitioning our results to business areas within our organization and in some cases directly to our government customers.
What we offer:
- Cutting edge, advanced computing research
- Application to real-world challenge problems
- Collaboration with investigators from top computer science departments
- Exceptional teammates
- Opportunities to learn and grow
- A fun workplace, excellent benefits, and every other Friday off
Who you are:
You are a technical expert with a years-long record of accomplishment of innovation and capturing Customer Research and Development (CRAD) in various DoD and Intelligence Community R&D organizations, interested in collaborating with a diverse set of researchers including investigators from top computer science departments. You are an experienced technical manager with a proven track record of R&D innovation, whose passion lies in creating innovative technology to create trusted systems - systems that are secure and safe, robust and reliable, capable of explaining their decisions, and provably correct. You bring a clear research vision, are experienced in producing whitepapers and proposals presenting your ideas and have demonstrated technical leadership to execute your research agenda. You bring a strong publication record in peer-reviewed venues and are actively engaged in the broader research community through professional service activities. As a Technical Group Lead you will shape, pursue, capture, lead, and manage the execution of research and development efforts through all phases of its lifecycle, from brainstorming and conceptualization, to opportunity identification and development, through research and experimentation during program execution.
Specific Technical Group Lead (TGL) Job Responsibilities include:
Staff Management: The TGL serves as a focal point for strategically relevant technical thrusts and as the first line functional supervisor for a group of researchers. The TGL is responsible for career growth, personal development, objective settings, and project allocation for a group of four to eight individuals across a variety of programs in diverse technical areas. The TGL must demonstrate vision and leadership to motivate and influence the group for growth and general well-being.
Program Execution: The TGL serves in a leadership role on business pursuit and execution of highly complex research or system engineering efforts, as a program manager, or project or technical lead. The TGL maintains awareness of the company's competitive position and identifies potential new products or business and pursues them with support from company leadership; leads technical proposals or provides critical written or conceptual contribution to major proposal sections; plans critical long-range technological requirements to enhance company objectives and independently identifies and solves significant problems associated with the success of current and critical long-range objectives.
This position is responsible for helping the ADA director grow the business, maintaining customer relationships, providing thought leadership, and developing innovative concepts for implementation with our customers. This responsibility includes the iterative refinement of a distinct strategy for that directorate.
Leadership: The TGL will collaboratively seek to create an innovative culture and scale the team's impact to ADA and the Autonomy, Processing, and Exploitation (APEX) product line's strategic objectives, with a near-term goal of expanding a unique organizational presence, particularly in the technical area of tactical levels of mission autonomy.
Business Operations: The TGL works closely with the director in executing the business plan to meet financial goals within the set upon budget and available resources. Tasks include the setting of a healthy backlog to support the staff, identifying the business opportunities, risks and opportunities to meet the financial goals, and prioritizing the marketing opportunities to grow the organization and to ensure continuous alignment of new projects with the key technology areas of the directorate.
Organizational Representative: The TGL may be called upon to represent the company in high visibility and rapid turnaround activities entailing travel and heavy customer/teammate interaction. Such activities are in quick response to unforeseen circumstances requiring a steep learning curve and tactful engineering professionalism.
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.
