Element has an opportunity for a Failure Analyst / Metallurgical Engineer who will be primarily responsible for the failure analysis inspections, operations, reporting and consultation services.
Element Detroit Wixom is a full-service metallurgical and materials testing laboratory supporting the automotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors. Founded in 1987, the laboratory provides extensive expertise in mechanical testing, fatigue testing, metallurgical evaluations, chemical analysis, corrosion testing, and advanced failure analysis, helping manufacturers validate material performance and resolve complex engineering challenges.

Responsibilities
- Supervision, conducting and reporting of failure analysis
- Operate metallurgical equipment including SEM/EDS
- Project management of client communication, quotations, follow up, reporting, and invoicing
- Presentation of technical work in different platforms, both written and oral in a confident manner
- Exhibit pragmatic and innovative with respect to both conduct of the investigation and providing solutions for the client
- Review technical documents and to construct a suitable scope of work
- Estimate the work effort required and to help in the commercial breakdown of the work
- Supervise routine metallographic examinations and review / compose standard reporting comments
- Experience and recognized qualification in Metallurgy
- Experience in conducting and reporting of root cause failure analysis
- Experience in working with SEM / EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy / Energy Dispersive analysis)
- Experience working in an ISI 17025 laboratory environment
- Proven supervisory skills
- Strong communication / presentation skills
- The ability to assess and respond to client requirements in an appropriate manner
- Ability to operate and function within a team, drawing on other expertise where required
- Flexibility and adaptability to different workloads and roles within the company
