Failure Analysis Technician - Mountain View, CA (Contract)
Failure Analysis Technicians at Lunar Energy will be responsible for investigating, diagnosing, and documenting the root causes of product failures of our revolutionary home energy products.. Your expertise will help improve product reliability, reduce defects, and enhance customer satisfaction. This includes providing detailed reports including optical, chemical and materials inspections. Please note: This is a 3 month contract at our Mountain View office
On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely:
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Quality, Test and Reliability engineers across the company .
- Preparing Cross-Sections of various PCBA or other components.
- Use diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and techniques such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and thermal imaging.
- Perform electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing to replicate failure conditions.
- Document findings through photographs, diagrams, and written reports
- Conducting and reviewing X-ray and/CT imaging analysis
- Maintaining and calibrating inspection equipment
- Identify opportunities to enhance testing protocols, analysis techniques, and product designs
Desired Skills:
- Vocational Degree in relevant field or Equivalent.
- Familiarity with analytical tools such as scanning electron microscopes (SEM), X-ray imaging, or spectrometers is a plus.
- Familiarity with cross-sectioning and polishing of samples
- Experience with PCBA and/or Battery failure analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate technical findings effectively in both verbal and written formats.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently

Our Compensation Philosophy: Our goal is to ensure that all Lunar Energy employees are fairly compensated. Please note that the hourly range information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position provided pursuant to the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act for California applicants. The hourly range estimate for this position depending on level of experience is: $30 - $65 USD.
The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package & benefits, will be at the company’s sole discretion, and determined by factors including but not limited to years of experience, job level, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations.
