F/A-18 Systems Engineer (level 3/4)

Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) is seeking a motivated and talented Systems Engineer (Level 3 / Level 4) to join our Fighters team in the St. Louis, Missouri region. This role will focus on requirements management for the F/A-18 Super Hornet and the EA-18 Growler.

As a systems engineer, you will apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop, and verify system solutions. You will evaluate customer and operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in all aspects of Systems Engineering throughout the full program lifecycle (concept definition, design, test, and production), using traditional and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methods.
  • Responsible for the definition of high-level functional and performance requirements and verification methods. Enable the subsequent decomposition and derivation of requirements including the allocation of those lower-level requirements to physical and functional architectural elements. Track requirements through design, verification, integration, and operational validation.
  • Assist with risk assessments and generate mitigation plans to comply with system and customer requirements.
  • May utilize Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools to develop system definitions/architectures and perform trade studies
  • Partner with subject matter experts and technology experts to execute the systems engineering statement of work, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve program objectives.
  • Integrate across multi-disciplinary teams to complete milestone reviews ensuring technical excellence of the project through a focus on safety and quality.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment.

  • An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 5+ years of work-related experience with a Bachelors OR 3+ years of work-related experience with a Masters (level 3)
  • 9+ years of work related experience with a Bachelors OR 7+ years of work-related experience with a Masters OR 4+ years of work-related experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience with systems engineering and requirements management
  • Experience with military aircraft
  • Experience with implementation and maintenance of systems engineering tools, schedules and metrics (i.e. DOORs, CAMEO, Earned value management).
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Current Department of Defense Security Clearance

Typical Education/Experience:

Level 3: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 4: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range:

Level 3: $97,750 - $132,250

Level 4: $119,850 - $162,150
