Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking an Experienced Thermal Product Design Engineer located in El Segundo, CA.
This candidate will design Thermal Products (Multi-Layer Insulation and Protection) to meet mechanical system requirements and establish mechanical systems design for Government and Commercial Satellite Programs.
Ideal candidate should have a background in thermal and mechanical systems designs and analysis in space applications.
Position Responsibilities:
- Develop, integrate and document mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design
- Develop, maintain, or modify mechanical and fluid system, component and installation designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Engineering tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
- Perform, integrate and document mechanical, fluid and thermal analyses and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
- Manage supplier development, test and production activities and coordinate with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
- Develop new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort
- Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
- 5+ years' experience in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 3+ years' experience with structural design or the design of mechanical sub-systems or components
- 3+ years of experience with subsystem engineering, including harness, thermal protection system, and/or prop feedlines/layout subsystems
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 1+ year of experience working with cross-functional or cross-organizational teams to develop and implement plans, schedules, or solutions
- 1 + year of experience with schedule and budget management, stakeholder communication, as well as understanding of execution of program planning to ensure cost, schedule and requirements are met
- 2+ years of experience with designing and installing multi-layer insulation blankets
- Effective time management, communication, technical writing, presentation development, facilitation, and organizational skills
