Our Strategic Analytics & Intelligence (SAI) team is dedicated to solving complex healthcare challenges and improving patient outcomes. SAI empowers business partners across Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG) to make impactful decisions by leveraging data, analytics, and AI/ML to enable fast, targeted actions in rapidly evolving business contexts.

SAI fosters a unified understanding of customers, actions, and outcomes by integrating analytics and insights seamlessly into CMG’s evolving digital, data, and automation platforms, creating scalable solutions and eliminating silos.

This role will report to the Head of SAI. 

The Opportunity

As the Executive Director, CMG Master Data (MDM), Foundational and Analytical Data Product Suite, you will lead the strategy, governance, and execution of data product management across the CMG functions within our pharmaceutical business. Your role will be central to managing, leveraging, and governing critical commercial data assets, enabling our CMG teams to deliver on business goals and optimize operations. You will also be responsible for developing and managing data products that create business value and drive efficiencies in areas such as sales, marketing, customer insights, and market access. The MDM suite will cover the Master data products across HCP, Account(HCO), Payers and Patients. The Foundational Data products will span across all Commercial data, and the Analytical product portfolio will include the HCP, Account, Payer and Patient data products. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the vision and strategic direction for CMG Master Data Management and Data Products within the commercial domain, establishing and ensuring adherence to business product and technology policies and standards while collaborating with senior leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Work closely with senior leadership, including CMG functional teams, IT, Data Science, and Analytics teams, to define and align data management strategies with business goals, aligning with organizational priorities to maximize business impact and deliver innovative, scalable, and usable solutions across the enterprise.

  • Evaluate and prioritize high-impact use cases that drive measurable enterprise business outcomes and value for patients, organized customers, providers, and payers, ensuring a balanced Data product Portfolio.

  • Define and oversee the full lifecycle strategy for the complete Suite of Master data products and Data Products from identifying and integrating new products to sunsetting legacy offerings, optimizing for overall suite performance and evolving marketing and business priorities.

  • Accountable for resource allocation and investments both in the near-term and long-term across the Data suite of business products; work with other Suite Leads to make resourcing tradeoff decisions across all Analytics product suites.

Master Data Management (MDM):

  • MDM Strategy: Oversee the design and implementation of MDM strategies to ensure consistency, quality, and integrity of master data across systems (e.g., HCP, HCO, Payer, Patient etc).

  • Data Quality: Establish data quality standards and policies to ensure the accuracy and completeness of commercial master data, monitoring data integrity and resolving discrepancies.

  • Integration: Drive integration of commercial data across different platforms and business units, enabling a unified, comprehensive view of critical data assets.

Data Products:

  • Data Product Development: Lead the development of data products that address business needs, such as sales performance dashboards, customer segmentation models, or marketing analytics tools.

  • Data-Driven Insights: Work with business stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver insights-driven solutions that enhance decision-making and commercial strategies.

  • Innovation: Foster a culture of innovation by exploring new technologies, machine learning, and AI to create next-generation data products that enhance commercial operations.

Adoption Enablement, Experimentation & Performance Optimization

  • Serve as the executive champion for the Data Suite (Master Data, Foundational and Analytical Data Products) , articulating its strategic value to senior stakeholders, influencing enterprise decision-making, achieving enterprise objectives, communicating value to stakeholders, and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence.

  • Serve as the champion of the Data Suite while also balancing the needs of the enterprise, prioritizing and sequencing product releases that are orchestrated with other suites across the portfolio. Ability to ruthlessly prioritize, knowing when to pause or slow down development or activation, putting the advancement of the enterprise first.

  • Partner with Medical, Commercial, and Access function leadership to advise on the creation and execution of comprehensive learning experiences (e.g., training modules, workshops, and hands-on sessions) to upskill users of 360 Insights Suite products.

  • Partner with relevant Genentech Activation teams in order to develop a structured change management strategy, inclusive of stakeholder engagement, communication plans, and ongoing support.

  • Define hypotheses, design experiments, and conduct tests in collaboration with other IT, analytics, and product teams.

  • Set and track performance and adoption metrics across the business product suite, in partnership with Genentech Activation teams, including regularly reporting on efficiency gains and business impact.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead enterprise-wide and network-wide initiatives to promote cross-product understanding and collect feedback through orchestrated rituals.

  • Collaborate with CMG leaders in Commercial, Medical, Access and Informatics to understand their data needs and ensure alignment with business objectives.

  • Collaborate with peers, VP and SVP level leaders across Genentech to align internal business requirements to refine the Data Suite Portfolio strategy & roadmap.  

  • Drive CMG cross-functional alignment, collaborating seamlessly with other leaders across Commercial, Medical, Access and Informatics to align business product strategies with business objectives, make necessary tradeoffs, ensure rapid product development, drive adoption, and track progress of the Portfolio. 

  • Ensure that Data Suite products are developed with an eye towards scaling the capabilities across Roche Pharma globally by working with counterparts in Global Product Strategy, IX, and elsewhere.

Governance & Compliance 

  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies, upholding the integrity of Genentech’s activities and product stewardship.

  • Partner with internal experts in Legal, Compliance, and Medical Affairs, to mitigate business risks and uphold Genentech’s policies and ethical standards; hold teams accountable for adherence to these standards.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Analytics or related field.

  • 12+ years of experience in data management roles, with a strong emphasis on commercial data management solutions.

  • Work experience for 12+ years with Master Data management solution preferable in Pharmaceutical or Biotech commercial function.

  • Strong understanding of the commercial Pharmaceutical data domain. 

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in coaching, developing, and inspiring talent

  • Proven ability to own and manage the full product lifecycle, including visioning, roadmap creation, execution, and impact measurement.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated success in facilitating cross-functional collaboration.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data insights and drive operational decisions.

  • Experience working in an standard DevOps agile setting or bringing agile best-practice mentorship to the team

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced degree (e.g., Masters or related graduate-level qualification).

  • Experience with a focus on implementing Data strategy, preferably in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other regulated industries

  • Familiarity with industry best practices and benchmarks for Data Management solutions.

  • This position is based in South San Francisco, CA and relocation assistance is available.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $227,500 - $422,500 USD Annual.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
