House of Hope of North Carolina opened as a Christian therapeutic home, school, and counseling center for hurting and vulnerable girls, ages 12-17 and their families. It also offers outpatient counseling services for teens and adults, with individual and family options. When there is a hurting teenage girl in a family, the entire family is affected and the entire family needs help.

​​Since opening in 1998, House of Hope has served approximately 345 families (around 800 people including girls, parents, stepparents, grandparents, and siblings) within a 60-mile radius of Clayton. The goal is to help each family heal and bring reconciliation to the family. House of Hope restores families by teaching life skills to girls and parenting skills to parents, helping them build healthy and loving environments rooted in the love of Jesus Christ and the hope that only He can provide.

What will you do as House of Hope’s next Executive Director? 

Leadership and Strategic Impact 

  • Serves as the primary leader, community builder, spokesperson, and administrator.
  • Develops and leads the strategic vision of the organization driving a collaborative process with the Board of Directors, staff, and key stakeholders. 
  • Ensures that the organization’s strategic vision is clear to internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Maintains proactive and regular communications with the Board of Directors and provides the necessary support, counsel, and information required for effective governance. 
  • Builds relationships with strategic partners on behalf of House of Hope to fulfill the vision. 
  • Actively engages and energizes House of Hope’s clients, staff, volunteers, donors, and partners. 

Operational and Financial Oversight

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of House of Hope (managing a $750,000 annual budget with 28% of the revenue coming from program fees) including services, programs, development, finance, HR, and office administration.
  • Ensures strong internal controls, fiscal responsibility, accountability, regular financial statements, and efficient, accurate, and consistent financial operations and practices.
  • Communicates the financial picture of the organization in an authentic and transparent way to stakeholders. 
  • Makes certain House of Hope has the appropriate systems, physical space, and technology to operate efficiently and effectively. 
  • Ensures high-quality program delivery, evaluation, and reporting that promotes the effective utilization of personnel and financial resources.
  • Provides direction for expanding or modifying programs and services as it relates to the strategic plan.
  • Fills in for house or school staff if there is a staffing gap as part of rotational on call duties. 

Fund Development 

  • Serves as the chief fundraiser for the organization, building long-term relationships with key donor segments based on mission, cultivation, and stewardship, directly soliciting their support and investment.
  • Oversees all fund development plans and activities with the support of a Development Coordinator to include setting goals, identifying various funding sources, and creating a plan to achieve these goals. 
  • Responsible for the consistent flow of revenue to the organization, supporting programs and activities through diverse and multi-faceted income streams. 

Team and Staff Development

  • Builds a positive and compassionate work culture that supports a productive, mission focused and fair work environment.
  • Develops organizational structure, role clarity, expectations, and accountability to engage and motivate staff to achieve strategic goals effectively and efficiently.
  • Hires, assigns, supervises, delegates, coaches, evaluates, and terminates staff in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. 
  • Works with staff to ensure a positive volunteer experience, maintaining focus on the engagement and retention of volunteers. 
  • Connects staff with Board as appropriate to deepen both staff and Board relationship with the mission.

Community Engagement and Outreach 

  • Oversees the development of a strategic communication and marketing plan that provides a clear and concise conveyance of House of Hope’s story and impact. 
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships in the sector and region with peers, donors, industry associations, the media, and other partners. 
  • Builds alliances and strategic partnerships, collaborating with other organizations, and sharing data and best practices. 

Key lived experiences, attributes, and skillsets sought in the Executive Director 
The new leader must demonstrate a calling to and passion for House of Hope’s mission and align with its statement of faith. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: 

  • A baptized believer with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. 
  • Committed to an active and vibrant prayer life, a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, and living out a dynamic Christian walk with a loving spirit. 
  • At least five years of executive level nonprofit management experience or comparable business administration. 
  • Experience working in mental health or counseling sector is preferred. 
  • Experience casting a vision, building a strategy, and hands on leadership executing a plan that resulted in growth. 
  • Decision-maker who understands how to build consensus. 
  • Inspiring communicator who can motivate staff, the Board, donors, partners, and volunteers.
  • Listener who is open-minded, focused on understanding. 
  • Demonstrated relationship building and fundraising experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts.
  • Direct experience with human resources, as well as structuring, hiring, onboarding and continually building a strong staff team and culture. 
  • History of demonstrating the sound judgment, administrative skill, and financial acumen necessary to oversee day-to-day operations and manage a budget of at least $500,000.
  • Detail-oriented, logical, and methodological approach to problem-solving. 
  • Technologically proficient.
