Position Summary


The Executive Director, Corporate Development will play a key leadership role in developing and executing the Company’s corporate development and growth strategy. Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Development, this individual will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and executing strategic transactions that advance the Company’s long-term objectives and strengthen its portfolio.


The role will have a particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), in-licensing and other strategic transactions to access external innovation and expand the Company’s pipeline. The Executive Director will also contribute meaningfully to corporate strategy, portfolio planning and prioritization and, as appropriate, out-licensing, divestitures, collaborations, and other strategic initiatives.


This individual will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional partners across Research, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, Finance, Legal, Intellectual Property, Technical Operations and other functions to assess opportunities, develop business cases, lead due diligence, formulate transaction strategies, and drive transactions through execution.

The successful candidate will combine strong strategic and financial acumen with deep biopharmaceutical industry knowledge, exceptional transaction execution skills, and the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams in a highly collaborative environment.


Key Responsibilities


Corporate Development & Transaction Execution


  • Lead the evaluation and execution of transactions, including M&A, in-licensing, strategic collaborations, partnerships, investments and other transactions designed to expand and enhance the Company’s portfolio.
  • Lead transactions across the full deal lifecycle, including initial assessment, business case development, valuation, due diligence, deal structuring, term sheet development, negotiation of definitive agreements and transaction closing.
  • Develop transaction strategies and deal structures that appropriately balance opportunity, risk, capital requirements and potential value creation.
  • Partner closely with Legal and other functional leaders in the negotiation of term sheets and definitive agreements.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional due diligence teams, establishing clear objectives, timelines and decision criteria and ensuring that key findings and risks are appropriately synthesized for senior management.
  • Prepare and present transaction recommendations and supporting analyses to senior leadership and, as appropriate, the Board of Directors.
  • As appropriate, lead or support out-licensing, regional partnering, divestiture and other externalization initiatives designed to maximize the value of Company assets.
  • Support Executive leadership with the development of corporate strategy including identification of growth opportunities, analysis of value drivers, and facilitation of strategic decision making
  • Maintain and cultivate external relationships with potential collaborators and corporate advisors such as investment banking and strategic consulting partners
  • Represent Travere at industry and partnering events and conferences
  • Mentor and develop Corporate Development team members and contribute to the continued development of the Company’s corporate development capabilities and processes.

Education/Experience Requirements: 


  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, business or related discipline required; advanced degree such as an MBA, PhD, MD or other relevant graduate degree strongly preferred.
  • 12 - 15+ years of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries with a focus on corporate/business development, search and evaluation, investment banking, management consulting, venture capital or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and closing complex transactions in the biopharma space from initial evaluation through diligence, negotiation and execution.
  • Strong understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry, including drug development, commercialization, regulatory considerations, intellectual property and the economics of pharmaceutical development.
  • Strong financial and analytical capabilities, including experience with valuation methodologies, financial modeling, commercial forecasts, rNPV/DCF analysis and transaction economics.
  • Demonstrated ability leading cross-functional teams.

Compensation: Our competitive compensation package includes a combination of both cash compensation (base pay and short-term incentive) and long-term incentive compensation (company stock), designed to recognize, retain, and reward employees.

Target Base Pay Range:

$246,000.00 - $332,000.00
