Position Summary
We're looking for a senior technology leader to own the software engineering strategy that powers CVS Health's analytics ecosystem—someone who came up through hands-on software engineering, understands what makes systems fast and reliable at the foundation, and has grown into an architect and now an engineering executive who can scale that judgment across a large organization. This isn't a role for someone whose experience is primarily strategy decks and roadmap templates, or for someone who has only coordinated other people's engineering work without having done it themselves.
You'll lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team building the platforms behind pricing transparency, provider search, call center AI products, voice translation, and large-scale text summarization. You'll be accountable for latency, scalability, and simplicity—and you won't hesitate to jump into a code review or a design discussion when it matters.
Key Responsibilities:Lead, grow, and mentor a large engineering organization, building strong managers and senior ICs while raising the bar on engineering craft
Personally engage in architecture reviews and code reviews for critical systems, driving down latency and eliminating unnecessary complexity
Partner with Data Science, Product, Analytics, and Architecture teams to translate business priorities into scalable, cloud-based data solutions
Define and execute the engineering roadmap for enterprise analytics platforms, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform modernization
Drive operational rigor—reliability, observability, and cost efficiency—across production data platforms supporting healthcare-critical applications
Establish engineering best practices and standards that improve speed, quality, and maintainability across teams
Communicate technical strategy and trade-offs clearly to both engineering teams and senior business stakeholders
Champion a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications:
15+ years of progressive experience in Software Engineering or related technology disciplines.
7+ years of experience leading large engineering organizations through multiple layers of leadership.
Significant hands-on software engineering background, including experience architecting and delivering end-to-end data or software products
Demonstrated growth path from engineer to architect to engineering leadership, with experience managing large, multi-disciplinary teams
Strong grasp of core software engineering fundamentals—system design, performance optimization, and building simplified, maintainable solutions
Experience with cloud-based data platforms and modern engineering practices
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical rationale clearly to varied audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in healthcare, insurance, or other regulated, high-scale industries
Background supporting AI/ML-powered products (e.g., conversational AI, summarization, search)
Experience driving large-scale platform modernization or migration initiatives
Familiarity with latency-sensitive, customer-facing systems at enterprise scale
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
