Project Scope
We are seeking an Exasol Data Engineer to support a healthcare analytics engagement requiring deep SQL engineering expertise and hands-on experience with healthcare data structures, quality measures, and value-based care programs. This role will work within a complex data environment to build, optimize, and validate data pipelines that drive clinical and operational analytics outcomes.
Position Summary
The Exasol Data Engineer will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for SQL-based data engineering, chart validation, and healthcare analytics development within an Exasol environment. This individual will bring deep knowledge of healthcare terminologies, quality measure structures, and claims data to support accurate, repeatable, and well-documented data solutions. The ideal candidate is a disciplined engineer who can explain why a query is slow, fix it, and deliver reliable outputs that meet clinical and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize complex SQL queries using set-based logic, window functions, and query tuning techniques on Exasol or comparable MPP/columnar platforms.
- Extract and stage data from SQL Server sources including JDBC-based loads.
- Perform chart validation by reconciling extracts against medical records on sample patients and running correction loops with clinical or measure SMEs.
- Apply working knowledge of healthcare terminologies including LOINC, ICD-10-CM and PCS, CPT and HCPCS, SNOMED CT, and RxNorm.
- Support quality measure development across eligible populations, denominators, numerators, exclusions, and value sets including VSAC and NCQA.
- Leverage Exasol in-database compute capabilities including Python UDFs, script language containers, and BucketFS model artifacts.
- Work with claims data structures including 837, 835, 834, CMS CCLF, and member-month analytic grain.
- Support value-based care program analytics across MSSP, Medicare Advantage Stars, HEDIS, eCQMs, CQL, and HCC risk adjustment on CMS-HCC V28.
- Maintain disciplined engineering practices including version control, peer review, documented logic, and repeatable deployment processes.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of SQL data engineering experience with at least 2 years in healthcare provider or payer analytics.
- Deep, demonstrable SQL expertise including set-based logic, window functions, and query tuning on columnar or MPP platforms.
- Experience extracting and staging data from SQL Server sources including JDBC-based loads.
- Chart validation experience reconciling extracts against medical records and working correction loops with clinical SMEs.
- Working knowledge of healthcare terminologies including LOINC, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, SNOMED CT, and RxNorm.
- Familiarity with quality measure structure including eligible population, denominator, numerator, exclusions, and value sets.
- Disciplined engineering practice including version control, peer review, documented logic, and repeatable deployment.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct Exasol experience strongly preferred; strong experience on Snowflake, Redshift, Teradata, or Vertica transfers well.
- Experience with Exasol in-database compute including Python UDFs and BucketFS model artifacts.
- Claims data experience across 837, 835, 834, CMS CCLF, and member-month analytic grain.
- VBC program knowledge across MSSP, Medicare Advantage Stars, HEDIS, eCQMs, CQL, and HCC risk adjustment on CMS-HCC V28.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Senior data engineer who can independently diagnose and resolve complex SQL performance issues without being pointed in the right direction.
- Deep healthcare data professional who understands the clinical context behind the data, not just the technical structures.
- Disciplined and methodical, with a track record of clean, documented, and repeatable data engineering work.
- Comfortable operating in a fully remote environment with minimal oversight.
- Brings technical depth, accountability, and a delivery-focused mindset to every engagement.
When working with Quoris as a consultant, you are eligible for competitive benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, 401k, and a great culture/working environment.
