As a European Affairs Analyst within BBVA’s European Affairs Office in Brussels, you will contribute to the bank’s engagement with the European institutions and regulatory ecosystem. You will monitor, analyse, and interpret EU policy and legislative developments that affect BBVA’s strategy and operations — across a broad range of topics, with a particular focus on financial services, digital policy, and innovation.
You will play a key role in identifying emerging policy trends, supporting advocacy efforts, and ensuring BBVA’s positions are effectively communicated to EU and international policymakers. The role requires a combination of policy analysis, institutional awareness, communication skills, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
Regulatory and policy monitoring
Track EU legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the financial sector, particularly in areas such as prudential regulation, digital finance, sustainability, financial markets, etc.Impact analysis and internal advice
Analyse proposed EU initiatives, assessing their potential implications for BBVA’s business and strategy. Prepare clear and concise reports, briefings, and presentations for internal stakeholders.Advocacy and representation
Support the drafting of BBVA’s positions and responses to public consultations, legislative proposals, and regulatory reviews. Contribute to the preparation of meetings with EU institutions, regulators, and policymakers.Stakeholder engagement
Participate in meetings with EU officials, industry associations, peer institutions, and think tanks. Help represent BBVA’s views in working groups and coalitions with other financial actors.Coordination and knowledge sharing
Liaise with BBVA’s internal areas (business, legal, compliance, technology, sustainability) to ensure consistent messaging and alignment. Disseminate regulatory intelligence across the organisation.Project support
Contribute to cross-cutting projects within the European Affairs team, including the preparation of strategic notes, reports, and communication materials.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Economics, Political Science, International Relations, Engineering, or Business. A Master’s in EU Studies, Economics, Finance, or Public Policy is an advantage.
Experience
- More than 3 years of professional experience in EU affairs, public policy, regulatory analysis, or a related field (e.g. consultancy, trade association, EU institution, or corporate public affairs).
Institutional knowledge
- Good understanding of EU institutions, decision-making processes, and legislative procedures (Commission, Parliament, Council, trilogues, comitology, etc.).
Analytical skills
- Proven ability to interpret legislative texts, identify key policy issues, and summarise complex topics for diverse audiences.
Communication skills
- Good writing and oral communication in English and Spanish (minimum C1); French or another EU language is an asset.
Soft skills
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills. Team player, proactive, and able to work effectively in a multicultural and fast-paced environment. Organised, efficient, and solution-oriented.
Mobility
- Willingness to relocate and live in Brussels; occasional travel within the EU.
