Summary/ Objective

The position of Buyer/Expeditor is responsible to facilitate the flow of materials to and from various work sites or departments, work with vendors to secure the appropriate goods and coordinate delivery and for inspecting materials for both quality and quantity. This position will conduct all Company business in accordance with Company policies and procedures and maintain professionalism throughout all business dealings, both internally and externally.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Read schedules, inventory reports, work orders and forecasts to determine type and quantity of materials required, availability of stock and order priority.
  • Confer with department supervisors/project managers/operations managers to determine overdue material and parts and to inform supervisors and management of material status.
  • Direct warehouse staff to expedite transfer of materials from stock area to production areas.
  • Examine materials received, verify part numbers and check discrepancies such as damaged, unmarked parts.
  • Compare work ticket specifications to material used at various projects to verify appropriate assignment.
  • Adhere to internal policies and procedures and Sarbanes Oxley regulations.
  • Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  • Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company.
  • Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background checks as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Supervisory Responsibility

    This position will have no supervisory responsibilities.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. May be required to operate in a petrochemical/ refinery environment with exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months; exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. May be required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).


    Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 


    While performing the duties of the job, an Expeditor is occasionally required to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit and lift up to 50 pounds.


    Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

    This is a project- based position. Typical days and hours of work are variable/ project dependent Over-time work is common and may be required as job duties demand.


    Travel

    Travel is expected. Extensive travel throughout U.S. and overnight stay for extended periods of time.

    Qualifications

    Preferred Education and Experience

    5 years’ prior experience as an expeditor . Experience in the petrochemical / refinery industry.

    Skills Required

    • Five years of prior experience as an expeditor
    • Experience in the petrochemical or refinery industry
    • Ability to pass required drug and alcohol testing
    • Ability to pass required background checks
    • Ability to travel extensively throughout the United States and stay overnight for extended periods
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform required physical activities
    • Ability to complete respirator fit testing and pulmonary function testing when required
