Job Summary

The Estimating Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing all estimating of land clearing projects, preparing accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for clearing, grubbing, grading,  earthwork, and related projects. This role involves analyzing construction blueprints, project specifications, and site conditions to calculate complete labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs. The role requires performing takeoffs, handling submittals, as well as pulling soils reports and conducting in-field site/neighborhood recon to detect, identify, anticipate, document, and solve for any site-related and access-related risks. The ideal candidate possesses technical knowledge of excavation operations, earthwork math, and heavy equipment capabilities/production rates to ensure profitable and successful project bids. They will regularly collaborate with all staff within other departments in the Company to maintain schedules and achieve goals. In addition, this position will provide leadership and guidance to any direct reports, if/as assigned.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the estimating and bidding function for the company’s land clearing operations, including building and maintaining trusted relationships with construction companies, developers, and other land clearing clients.
  • Provide consistent and effective support to company land clearing General Superintendent and COO for resource planning, sector reporting (MS-Excel, MS-Planner), and contracts (w/ client & w/ subs)
  • Analyze project plans, engineering blueprints, geotechnical reports, and specifications to determine the scope of work and bid requirements
  • Perform comprehensive quantity take-offs for earthwork, for clearing, grubbing, grading,  earthwork, and related projects
  • Calculate precise material, labor, equipment, trucking, and subcontractor costs using industry-standard estimating software
  • Determine optimal heavy equipment selection and calculate production rates based on soil conditions, hauling distances, and site constraints
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct on-site inspections to evaluate field conditions, access constraints, and potential project risks
  • Identify operational obstacles and develop effective plans estimates and bids for land clearing and construction-related operations
  • Develops and maintains high-trust relationships with construction companies, developers, subcontractors, and industry representatives, and project stakeholders
  • Support staff with land-clearing-related reporting, tracking, and systems
  • Meets with internal executives on a regular basis to discuss markets, forecasts, and develop strategy
  • Coordinates with and works effectively with managers
  • Maintains knowledge of all project requirements, contract information, and required timelines
  • Keeps up to date on current restrictions and procedures relevant to and land clearing
  • Maintain a database of historical cost data, fuel prices, labor rates, and equipment production metrics to improve future estimate accuracy
  • Coordinates with State and Federal agencies responsible for environmental compliance
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiencies of current policies and procedures and make suggestions on ways to improve
  • Produce reports for land clearing projects.
  • Keeps up to date on location of equipment and activities at jobsites.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Understanding of land clearing practices and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of heavy equipment, construction equipment, and forestry equipment.
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Must have proficiencies in Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to read and fully comprehend construction documents
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship, and negotiating skills
