Position Summary
Provides patient care support services in the Emergency Department under the supervision of an RN
- Observes, reports and responds to patient’s physical, psychosocial spiritual, education, safety/risk and discharge planning needs on admission and on an ongoing basis.
- Performs direct patient care activities according to the plan of care and as directed by RN: Placement of the patient on the monitor Obtaining and documenting of VS, I&O Insertion of foley catheters Patient transport Phlebotomy EKGs Wound care Joint immobilization/splinting/casting. Other care as needed
- Shares responsibility for organizing supplies, tracking, stocking and storing equipment and keeping the department clean and organized. Stocking/maintenance duties include: Linens – rooms, carts, blankets in warmer Bedside equipment Suture trays and equipment. Monitor supplies at bedside. Refill O2 tanks under carts IV trays and carts
- Assists nursing team in admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
- Cleans room upon patient discharge, prepares room for next patient.
- Prioritizes with a rapidly changing workload.
- Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned
- Special Skills: Excellent customer service skill and basic computer skills, knowledge of basic medical terminology required.
- Minimum Requirements:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
- Experience:
- One year of experience in as a nursing assistant; or in lieu of experience,
- Current CNA certificate, or LNA license from the Arizona State Board of Nursing; or
- Completed block one/first year of nursing school; or
- Current EMT-B certification; or
- Completion of formal PCA/T/ED Tech education program from an accredited institution.
- Licensure/Certification: Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license or meet minimum experience requirements; CPR.
- Preferred Requirements:
- Experience: Six months experience in a hospital or emergency room setting as a Unit Secretary, EMT or CNA.
- Licensure/Certification: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Emergency Medical Tech (EMT), CPR
