Position Overview
As a Equipment Engineering Intern at Magna AIM Systems, you will gain hands-on experience supporting equipment reliability preventative maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility. This internship provides a practical learning opportunity in industrial maintenance and manufacturing systems, while contributing to projects that enhance safety, equipment uptime and overall plant efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop precise facility and equipment floor plans using 2D and 3D modeling software.
- Support the physical assembly, positioning, and mechanical setup of industrial dryer systems.
- Coordinate logistics and mechanical integration for the installation of new industrial manufacturing presses.
- Troubleshoot automated Auto pack systems utilizing robotic arms, integrating packaging information and layout coordination.
- Supervise the electrical wiring, terminal connections, and safety checks for new high-temperature heater bands
- Assist in the setup and organization of the maintenance material system, including cataloging spare parts and creating standardize storage layouts.
- Follow all Magna and OSHA safety policies and ensure proper use of tolls and equipment.
- Participate in Lean and 5S initiatives to enhance organization and safety within maintenance areas.
Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in manufacturing systems.
- Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work safely in a hands-on industrial environment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Education / Experience
- Currently in a master’s program as Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Coursework or lab experience in equipment maintenance, automation or manufacturing systems preferred.
- Previous hands-on or co-op experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Proficient Computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Proficient in BricsCAD/ AutoCAD.
- Understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure and general workplace safety.
- Interest in Lean Manufacturing and equipment reliability improvement methods.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office and industrial environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs
