Oxbow Academy provides very specialized treatment. We are often the last hope to families in crisis who don't know where to turn. As a youth mentor on the Oxbow team, you will provide a safe and supervised environment where our families' sons can begin the healing process.

Oxbow Academy is looking to hire a hard-working and self-motivated equine coordinator. Learning to care for and work with animals is a highly effective experiential activity. As you know from experience, animals connect with people in a unique way. The work you do with our students and horses is very important to their therapeutic process. An excellent equine coordinator will have extensive riding experience (5+ years) and be skilled at working with challenging animals. The most competitive candidates will be experienced ranch hands and equine instructors who are detail orientated, energetic, and compassionate.

Students at Oxbow Academy have broken sexual boundaries and struggle with sexual compulsiveness. They commonly have been victims of sexual abuse or sexual trauma. These issues are often misunderstood and result in debilitating anxiety and shame. Our goal is to provide hope where it has been lost, rebuild trust where it has been broken, and help these young men and their families move forward.

Essential duties include:

  • Teach students specialized riding skills with an emphasis on proper technique and form.
  • Enrich students' understanding of the relationship between horse and rider.
  • Ensure health and welfare of 15 horses and 100+ bottle-fed calves
  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of stalls, individual calf hutches, hay barn, horse barn, horse turnouts, calf corrals, and arenas
  • Administer medications and manage animal medical records
  • Treat injuries and illnesses (horses, calves, goats, and chickens) in accordance with equine director or veterinary advice
  • Schedule and assist with routine and emergency care including veterinarian and farrier appointments
  • Maintain inventory and feed supplies
  • Attend weekly meetings with coordinators to discuss areas of improvement

Serve families. Help heal. Join the Oxbow Academy team.
