Epic HIM Applications Analyst II
Job Description
Purpose & Scope:
The HIM Applications Analyst will serve as the primary contact in the development and functionality of the Epic system/application. This role provides consultation and coordinates design/build/testing/go-live activities for the Inpatient EMR. The HIM Application Analyst is required to have an in-depth understanding of workflows, policies and procedures, patient care/clinical business objectives, regulatory requirements and industry best practices for patient care.
This position provides technical application support for complex Epic applications, analyzing, evaluating, and troubleshooting and provides high level analysis of multiple applications and/or highly complex applications. The analyst understands and translates the business functionality into the Epic systems configuration and workflow. Plans and prepares the Epic HIM applications test scripts for application testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing.
Provides application and technical support for the product line in addition to providing triage and troubleshooting to the product customers. Monitors the systems for data quality, efficiency, operation, and data integrity and appropriately escalates issues/problems. This role provides system analysis, design, development, documentation, and configuration as well as testing and training of the product. The Epic HIM Analyst provides standardization direction for the product aligning the application version and workflow with current standards.
Under limited supervision, gathers and analyzes user needs for developing and modifying applications in the healthcare environment. Analyzes complex results, proposes solutions and/or recommendations in addition to building, configuring and/or modifying the Epic HIM applications using existing application tools. This role also provides complex application support, writes documentation and specifications.
The HIM Applications Analyst is responsible for achieving in-depth knowledge of Epic System's HIM software and serves as a liaison between end users and Epic implementation staff. Conducts regular day-to-day communication with the Epic's installation team, reviews the software, analyzes business operations, and works with Epic, other third party vendors, project team(s), business representatives, subject matter experts, and end users to tailor the system to fit the organization's needs. The Analyst routinely performs in-depth analyses of workflows, data collection, report details/specifications, and assists with technical issues and is responsible for developing and documenting the internal procedures that are used in conjunction with Epic’s applications, designs, builds, tests, installs and maintains those solutions. Evaluate and understand dependencies between applications to understand if making a change in one application would have a negative impact in another application.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a health, science, or business field, or an equivalent level of professional experience preferred.
Experience:
• Four years industry related experience in a IS setting (Healthcare/Health Services, Information Services) or within applicable area in healthcare operations, with a minimum 3 years progressively responsible experience in information applications, including performing programming or applications analysis, or equivalent. Thorough understanding of current processes for the activities that fall under HIM: Chart Tracking, Release of Information, Deficiency Tracking and/or Coding (nice to have, but not necessary).
• Two or more years of experience working on Epic HIM and configuration with success – taking the HIM modules from build to ‘go live’ is highly desirable.
• A solid background in the operation of a hospital’s HIM Department. Thorough understanding of current processes for the activities that fall under HIM: Chart Tracking, Release of Information, Deficiency Tracking, and/or Coding. The Epic HIM Analyst should have knowledge of current Joint Commission guidelines for patient health information management and chart completion, and current release of information workflows and HIPAA requirements. Basic knowledge of coding, abstracting, physician query, and billing communication/correction workflows
Certification/Licensure:
Epic certification: application specific to be obtained within nine months.
