Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) develops Environmental Cases and provides Environmental Management advice to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) customer for Fixed Wing and Vertical Lift sustainment and acquisition contracts, ensuring compliance with Environmental legislation applicable to defence systems, taking due cognisance of the guidance provided within the UK MoD Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS).

The Role

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our growing Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) Environmental Engineering capability.  BDUK Environmental Engineers lead the implementation of a wide range of engineering activities to ensure continued compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements applicable to Boeing Products, Systems and Services, and advise accountable managers on Environmental risks.

They also work closely with Environmental specialists across programme stakeholder organisations; collaborate with multi-discipline engineering teams to influence process design and development in environmental management; and, represent the Boeing Company at Environmental Management forums. 

This is an excellent opportunity for early career or established engineers to gain experience across multiple environmental disciplines while developing your technical skills.

In this role, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Assist with the integration of Environmental Management considerations within the design and development of Boeing Products, Systems and Services.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of Environmental Management strategies appropriate to each project or programme resulting in a cogent Environmental Case.

  • Assist the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team on individual programmes in supporting the BDUK Environmental Management System and to comply with appropriate UK Environmental legislation.

  • Assist the Boeing Sustainability Team with the promotion of sustainability into UK programmes and gaining recognition of UK programmes in sustainability.

  • Collaborate with other Boeing, customer and supplier technical disciplines to ensure appropriate evidence is available to support the Environmental Management strategy. Represent Boeing at conferences, seminars, exhibitions and workshops as necessary.

  • Advise Senior Engineers and Accountable Managers on legislative environmental requirements.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent analytical skills, organized and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to audiences.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.

  • Experience of Environmental Management.

  • Committed to Continuous improvement of self, function, company and programme.

  • The candidate will be required to pass a BPSS to take up this appointment.

  • Familiarity with Environmental Management Systems e.g Defence Standard 00-051, ISO14001, and POEMS is desirable.
