Job Description:
Summary:
Barr is seeking an environmental engineer to join its Ann Arbor office and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites. Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with on-site investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and soil gas; construction observation; engineering calculations; remedial design; treatment system monitoring and evaluation; construction cost estimates, plans, and specifications; and technical reports. Fieldwork opportunities for this position may be year-round and will include some out-of-town travel.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, chemical, or geological engineering or a related field

Academic coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above

Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain certification within one year

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients

Strong technical and problem-solving skills

Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness

Strong computer skills including word processing, use of spreadsheets, and exposure to GIS and CAD software

A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (up to 25% travel and 50% fieldwork expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time)

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in environmental, civil, chemical, or geological engineering or a related field

1–3 years of experience working on construction or environmental sites

Familiarity with environmental regulations
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Ann Arbor, Michigan, office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
