Environmental Control System Engineer (Experienced or Senior)

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Safety, Certification and Airworthiness (SCAW) is currently looking for a experienced or senior Mechanical Systems Engineer that is currently pursuing or has interest in pursuing appointment as an Environmental Control System (ECS) Engineering Unit Member (E-UM) / FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) to support teams based out of Oklahoma City, OK.

In this role, the candidate will perform as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in mechanical systems, specifically focused on ECS.  In addition, the candidate will be working on mentoring to become an ECS Engineering Unit Member as part the Boeing Organizational Designation Authorization (ODA). The candidate will support a varied portfolio of Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) activities across multiple BDS programs and sites.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including: Experienced or Senior Engineer

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support the review of certification planning, testing, and artifacts to find compliance to FAA regulations.

  • Provide SME support to programs and engineers in the ECS discipline.

  • Work with Senior ECS Engineering Unit Members to mentor to become an ECS Engineering Unit member.

  • Stay current with design industry trends and methodologies.

  • Travel globally to supplier locations and Boeing sites 25% of the time.

  • Interest in becoming a Boeing Engineering Unit Member in ECS

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience): (see education and experience for the levels below)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 3 or more years’ experience within Mechanical System engineering discipline.

  • 3 or more years’ experience Environmental Control System (ECS) design.

  • 1 or more years’ experience with aircraft certification to FAA regulations.

  • Interest in becoming a Boeing Engineering Unit Member in ECS.

  • Ability to travel to supplier locations and Boeing sites 25% of the time.

  

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills & Experience):

  • 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (level 4).

  • 9 or more years’ experience with FAA aircraft certification and ECS design.

  • Actively appointed or seeking appointment as an FAA DER or an Engineering Unit Member in an ODA.

  • 5 or more years’ experience with ECS (Environmental Control System) design.

  • Active U.S. Secret or Top-Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Typical Education & Experience:

Level 3 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 4

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
