We currently have a career opportunity for an Enterprise Architect to join our team located in Boston, MA. This is an on client site, hybrid role.
Job Overview:
The Enterprise Architect is the senior architecture authority responsible for shaping the target-state of the enterprise across all architecture domains — Business, Data, Application, and Technology — and for governing how strategy is translated into a coherent, executable architecture. The Enterprise Architect partners with executive leadership to align technology investment with business strategy, sets architectural standards and reference patterns, and ensures that programs and solutions deliver against a unified long-range roadmap.
This role operates at the intersection of business strategy and technology execution. It is distinct from a Solutions Architect (who designs a specific solution) and a Technical Architect (who owns the buildable technology design). The Enterprise Architect owns the system of systems.
Responsibilities
Enterprise Strategy & Architecture
- Define and maintain the enterprise target-state architecture across Business, Data, Application, and Technology domains
- Translate corporate strategy into an architecture roadmap with sequenced capability and platform investments
- Maintain reference architectures, architecture principles, and decision records (ADRs) that govern enterprise change
- Lead capability-based planning and portfolio rationalization in partnership with Business Architects and product leadership
Architecture Governance
- Chair or participate in the Architecture Review Board (ARB); approve or reject solution designs against enterprise standards
- Establish and enforce architecture standards for integration, data, security, cloud, and platform engineering
- Manage architectural risk, technical debt, and end-of-life remediation across the portfolio
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and data-governance obligations across the architecture
Cross-Domain Design Leadership
- Direct the integration of business capabilities, information models, application portfolios, and infrastructure into a coherent whole
- Resolve cross-program architectural conflicts and dependencies
- Lead technology selection and vendor evaluation for enterprise-grade platforms
- Define integration, API, event, and data-flow patterns at the enterprise level
Stakeholder Engagement
- Advise the CIO, CTO, CDO, and senior business leaders on architecture implications of strategic decisions
- Represent the enterprise architecture position in executive forums, investment committees, and board-level reviews
- Translate technical complexity into clear executive-level narratives and trade-off analyses
Talent & Practice Development
- Mentor Solutions Architects, Technical Architects, and Business Architects
- Build and evolve the architecture practice — methods, tooling, modelling standards, and architecture community
- Contribute to thought leadership and external positioning of the architecture function
Required Qualifications
- 7-10+ years of progressive architecture experience, with at least 3 years in an Enterprise Architect or equivalent capacity
- Demonstrated delivery of large-scale, multi-system enterprise transformations
- Expertise in at least one EA framework: TOGAF, Zachman, FEAF, or DoDAF
- Proficiency with architecture modelling tools and notations: ArchiMate, UML, BPMN
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), integration patterns (API, event-driven, ESB), data architecture, and modern security and identity frameworks
- Working knowledge of all four EA domains, with deep expertise in at least two
- Experience leading or participating in an Architecture Review Board or equivalent governance body
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills; ability to engage credibly from engineer to C-suite
Preferred Qualifications
- TOGAF 9 / 10 Certified Architect, or equivalent (Zachman, FEAF, SAFe Enterprise Architect)
- Industry-specific architecture experience (financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, public sector, retail)
- Familiarity with business architecture practices
- Experience embedding AI / ML platforms, data mesh / data fabric, or zero-trust security at the enterprise level
- Track record of building and leading an architecture practice or community of practice
