The Engineering Program Manager for our Shenzhen based Program Management Office (PMO) calls for an individual who will manage the development execution of Belkin’s consumer electronic products. The job entails program management from product concept to mass production. This individual will lead a global team of internal and external cross-functional team members following Belkin’s Product Development life cycle processes. The job involves intensive interaction with Design, Engineering, Quality, Business Unit Executives, Regional Sales Teams, and external vendors. The Engineering Program Manager must be able to comfortably address communication with people at all levels, including senior management. The work scope will include, but is not limited to, management of the schedule, cost, design, testing, regulatory compliance, and mass production transition. The Engineering Program Manager must possess the ability to lead collaborative decision-making, provide direction and establish a sense of urgency to the program team. Must be able to objectively evaluate risks to program objectives and be comfortable making difficult decisions, deal with a certain degree of ambiguity, and make sound business and technical decisions with minimal guidance. The Engineering Program Manager is ultimately accountable for the ON-TIME, ON-BUDGET, ON-VOLUME and ON-SPEC launch of all products under their purview.
Work will involve global collaboration between US, UK, Netherlands, Australia, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan. The Engineering Program Manager must be able to communicate effectively with international counterparts using documentation, presentations, conference calls/meetings, and/or other tools as needed. This individual must be willing to adapt to flexible work hours in order to stay in contact with colleagues in different time zones.
This individual must possess strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to see the big picture while knowing how to cascade-and-monitor details and individual tasks. Direct report management experience is highly desired.
Specific Responsibilities:
•Lead a cross functional team to ensure products meet all project requirements and objectives
•Review and analyze business case provided by Global Product Manager to ensure feasibility
•Bridge communication between business team and execution team
•Create, develop and manage program schedule, resource plan, NRE budget, and product cost targets
•Deliver programs ON-TIME, ON-BUDGET, ON-VOLUME and ON-SPEC (4 ONs)
•Set 4 ON expectations to cross-functional project team members and measure their performance throughout the project
•Ensure products comply with Belkin’s internal quality standard as well as required regulatory standards, such as CE, UL/IEC, FCC…etc.
•Identify risks and create contingency plans. Decide upon and execute contingency plans, when required
•Report program status to Director of Product Development and US based Business Unit lead
•Participate in process and business workflow improvements in product life cycle, cost-downs and internal division processes
•There is approximately 20% domestic (Southern China) and/or other Asia country travel required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
•BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other technical related concentration
•Excellent written and spoken skills in English and Mandarin are MUST
•Total of 6+ years of experience in consumer electronic product development required
•4+ years of project and program management experience required
•Extensive experience in working with Taiwan and China based ODM vendors in joint product development model required
•Strong program level business assessment experience
•Ability to develop program plans with concentration on meeting product performance, development of budgets and schedule goals
•Ability to negotiate program and product tradeoffs
•Ability to lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams in a matrix management environment
•Understanding of program requirements involving internal and external customers and the ability to communicate these to multiple tiered audiences
•Good understanding of cross-functional design and development process, especially related to Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Assurance Engineering
•Good understanding of electronic and mechanical manufacturing processes and the ability to drive prototype / pilot builds as well as initial mass production
•Sound knowledge and experience with computer, mobile, and tablet accessories such as hubs, chargers, keyboards, and battery packs are definitely an asset.
•Track record of successfully launching products into global market, while meeting global and regional regulatory requirements, such as CE, UL/IEC, FCC, etc…
•Good understanding of retail Packaging and other marketing asset development processes
•Ability to multi-task and manage multiple concurrent programs
•Demonstration of collaborative team building skills
•Ability to resolve conflicts in a productive manner
•Proven ability to build collaboration among team members
•Ability to create professional documentation and presentations for executive and customer reports
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
•Proficiency in a PLM toolkit software, such as Agile, Oracle, Business Objects, etc…
