We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team. This role combines project-level engineering leadership with broader company responsibilities within the N-iX CTO Group. The primary focus is leading a small, senior team on a live product: a European automotive marketplace with over 30 million monthly users, operating across 18 countries. The team has recently launched a set of AI-powered features and is now scaling them further.
In addition to the project, N-iX's CTO Group brings experienced engineers and architects into strategic activities across the company: presales support, architecture reviews, client escalations, and cross-cutting technical initiatives. As a senior leader at N-iX, you will contribute to these activities alongside your core project responsibilities.
Project-level responsibilities
You will lead a team of two senior engineers, taking full ownership of technical delivery and working in close collaboration with the client's Engineering Manager. The expected working style is co-authorship rather than vendor engagement.
Key responsibilities:
- Driving the architecture and delivery of native ChatGPT-based applications and custom MCP integrations
- Developing and maintaining high-traffic, public-facing interfaces hosted on AWS
- Working hands-on with AI coding agents (Claude Code, ChatGPT/Codex) as part of daily development workflows
- Taking full ownership of the SDLC: from design and development through to production readiness and ongoing monitoring
- Evaluating and adopting emerging AI frameworks and technologies relevant to the product
Technology stack:
- Backend: Node.js, TypeScript
- Frontend: Next.js / React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript (SSR-focused)
- Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform, Docker
- AI tooling: MCP, Claude Code, ChatGPT/Codex, LLM-based agent workflows
- Data: SQL and NoSQL datastores, service-based API environments
- Engineering practices: CI/CD pipelines, automated monitoring, production observability
Company-level responsibilities
As a member of the N-iX CTO Group, you will periodically contribute to strategic and delivery activities across the company. These engagements are not continuous but arise based on business need and your area of expertise.
- Advising client technology executives (CIOs, CTOs, Heads of Product) during critical programme decisions
- Contributing to presales activities by shaping solution approaches and supporting technical proposals
- Establishing and enforcing engineering standards in areas such as cloud architecture, DevOps, and application modernisation
- Mentoring senior engineers across accounts and contributing to the technical culture at N-iX
- Supporting delivery quality reviews, risk management, and dependency tracking where required
Requirements and Experience:
- 12+ years in software engineering and architecture
- 5+ years in senior engineering leadership roles (Engineering Manager, Principal Architect, Director, or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform, and Docker in production environments
- Strong backend proficiency in any listed backend stack (Python, Node.js, .Net, Java)
- Experience with in any listed frontend stack (React, Angular, Vue.js)
- Practical, day-to-day experience using AI coding agents (Claude Code, ChatGPT/Codex) to maintain and extend codebases
- Deep understanding of Model Context Protocols (MCP)
- Proven track record leading small, autonomous engineering teams with end-to-end delivery ownership
- Experience in a consulting or multi-client environment
- Upper-intermediate English or above; direct communication with client stakeholders is expected
Additional strengths:
- Strong backend proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript
- Solid frontend skills, including React or Next.js with server-side rendering
- Background in transportation, logistics, or ERP
- Experience with large-scale enterprise modernisation or digital transformation programmes
- Proficiency in the other programming languages like Python
