Key Responsibilities

The Engineering Manager is responsible for implementation of software development strategy for Capital Markets Shared Technology Products; guide and oversee the program of technology changes, re-platforming and re-hosting of the Market Operations Technology applications; provide technical direction to facilitate resolve of engineering challenges encountered during implementations.

Role requirements:

  • Hire, manage and develop a diverse team to achieve strategic and operational objectives
  • Lead, develop, support and maintain major projects and determine project approach, system scope, resource allocation and budget planning to meet complex business requirements
  • Collaborate with Architects in designing technical solutions
  • Provides leadership, coaching and development to the Market Operations Technology team to drive and maintain high performance
  • Advocate and evangelize best practice engineering; Drives quality standards across the application suite, covering analysis, development and testing processes
  • Add value through participation in peer code reviews, provide comments and suggestions
  • Have familiarity with security and operational best practices
  • Promoting and driving innovation by actively advocating new tools, processes and technical developments to drive continuous development
  • Providing technical leadership across technology choices and leading and mentoring best practices
  • Collaborating with team members on best practices, promoting effective cloud-based approaches and embracing agile methodologies to rapidly iterate solutions
  • Driving innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
  • Have expertise in a set of the team's domains, including the breadth of services, how they interact, and data flows between systems
  • Able to work individually or with teams drawing on experience to recommend tooling and solutions aligning with organizational strategies. Influences organization wide testing strategy
  • Guides teams in anticipation of future use cases and helps them make design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes
  • Reviews and contributes to security designs based on the organization’s security strategy. Fosters a security first mindset across teams and leads by example. Has knowledge of key security technologies, protocols & techniques (e.g. TLS, OAuth, Encryption, Networks)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required
  • Provide hands-on technical and functional input to design, maintenance, build, integration, and testing of software components according to functional and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with the multiple business SMEs (Internal and External) to understand broad product requirements
  • Make sure that business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives
  • Create a collaborative environment across geographically distributed teams for building industry leading products
  • Establish a learning and innovation culture for constant improvement of software engineering processes and programs.
  • Structure the team’s work in a way that is best suited to the product/service development and maximize efficiency (based on process, approaches and KPI review)
  • Foster an environment that encourages teamwork based on motivation and inspiration.
  • In-depth understanding of a range of software development lifecycles and their associated methodologies, specific experience in Agile is required; Understand the product and project management space with Agile methodologies.
  • Familiarity with public cloud, on-prem virtualised and physical hosting mechanisms
  • Hands-on development experience in Java, Spring Boot and microservices
  • Detailed knowledge of database technologies
  • Track record of delivering technically complex solutions in financial services, financial market infrastructure providers or closely related industries

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline
