Job Description

Hummingbird Scientific is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team and drive the development of advanced scientific instrumentation. This role is ideal for experienced professionals who combine strong technical expertise with exceptional group leadership and project management skills. If you enjoy turning complex ideas into well-executed products, guiding engineers and helping teams stay aligned and moving toward shared milestones, this is the opportunity for you to make a real impact.

As an Engineering Manager at Hummingbird Scientific, you will shape and oversee product design and development from initial concept through production, testing, and validation. You will help set technical direction while steering priorities, resources, and performance across a multidisciplinary team of engineers.

You’ll also be responsible for coordinating our manufacturing shop operations - ensuring efficient scheduling, to keep product prototype and product production aligned with organizational goals. You’ll play a key role in shaping the team’s technical direction, mentoring engineers, and maintaining the high standards of innovation and quality that define Hummingbird Scientific’s products.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience managing engineering projects and driving clear, timely progress across schedules, priorities, and deliverables
  • Proven expertise in mechanical design, product development, and system-level engineering,
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a diverse engineering team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and team-building skills, with a proven ability to guide cross-functional collaboration
  • Experience in performance management, conducting reviews, mentoring team members and contributing to talent acquisition and development

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field; MS or PhD preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical design, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management role
  • Proven track record of leading engineering teams and resolving complex technical and managerial challenges
     

Optional Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with quality control systems, inventory management, Process development & continuous improvement methods and shop floor operations
  • Experience assembling, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical or vacuum-based systems
  • Experience with TEM, SEM, or X-ray microscopy
