What’s the role?
As an Engineering Manager on the XRM (X-ray Microscopy) team, you get to work with some of the most brilliant minds in the X-ray Microscopy industry.

Here’s what you’ll do:
The Engineering manager is the functional manager for 6-10 direct engineering reports in a matrix organization. The Engineering Manager oversees product development and sustaining engineering activities within the XRM organization related to the product line. The manager is also responsible for helping coach/mentor/train/advise both direct reports and cross-functional team leads from other departments on product development process and good practices. The Manager will guide others in the organization on developing both technical requirements and detailed project and drive development teams to meet those goals. For critical projects, the Engineering Manager may serve directly as the project manager. For those projects, the Manager may be directly responsible for developing technical requirements, formulating test plans to verify that new products meet those requirements, and validating those requirements against market requirements. The Engineering Manager is also responsible for day-to-day management of sustaining activities including supporting operations, service, and manufacturing engineering teams, managing engineering lab, and maintaining the overall quality and performance of the product line. The Engineering Manager reports to the Director of Engineering.
Do you qualify?
- BS in Engineering, Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent. MS or Phd preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of directly related experience in product design of capital equipment and 5 years’ experience in technical product development management.
- Experience with microscopy, imaging and related technologies, performance requirements and customers.
- Experience with Product Life Cycle or Product Development process, phase-gate approach to project management.
- Additionally, experience with post acquisition image processing, image visualization, image analysis and computed tomography is desired.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, decision-making and communication skills to perform the functions as described.
- A high level of analytical, planning and organizational ability is required to manage large and complex projects and manage product development activities as described.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers and department staff, as described above; write reports and business correspondence; present information to executive leadership; and respond to questions from customers and vendors.
- Must have excellent people management skills
- Must possess the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Significant initiative and independent judgment are required.
- Ability to handle the fast-paced, ever-changing demands of a high-tech company in a competitive market space.
The annual pay range for this position is $172,000 – $215,000
The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.
This position is also eligible for a performance bonus or sales commissions. ZEISS also offers robust benefits, including medical plans, retirement savings plan and paid time off.
