Zamp is not a company, we're a humanity catalyst. We're on a mission to enable people to move at the speed of thought.
This decade, we're focused on building digital employees for the future of work. We work with 50+ top global organizations and banks, including DoorDash, Uber, and Stripe. We raised a $22M seed round from Sequoia Capital, Dara Khosrowshahi (CEO, Uber), Tony Xu (CEO, DoorDash), and other global leaders.
We want to build the world's best team: passionate, authentic, relentlessly curious people who want to do their life's best work.
The roleWe're looking for an Engineering Manager to own delivery, hiring and team health as our engineering org scales toward ~30 engineers.
Our engineers are sharp, AI-native and move fast. What's missing is one person who drives on-time delivery, keeps customers happy, and bridges product, design and engineering. You'll be that person: close enough to the code to earn respect, and senior enough to set the bar for how we build, hire and grow.
This is a small, lean team with clear goals. We want someone who keeps focus sharp, cuts politics, and gives engineers real ownership, not more process.
What you'll doOwn delivery. Make sure what we commit to ships on time and at quality. Set priorities across projects and unblock engineers fast, before someone is stuck on a problem for weeks.
Hire great engineers. Build and close a strong pipeline, including people from your own network who meet our bar. Raise the hiring bar as we scale.
Retain and grow the team. Run regular 1:1s with direct, timely feedback. Spot talent early, give people stretch problems, and keep morale and ownership high.
Bridge product and engineering. Treat product, design and engineering as one unit. Translate customer and business needs into clear problem statements for the team.
Show up for customers. Join customer and CTO calls to answer technical questions and represent engineering with credibility.
Shape how we build. Define engineering culture, practices and platform health for a lean, AI-native team, keeping process light and adapting it to a small org.
Allocate work well. Match projects to engineers based on interest, strength and growth, and rotate ownership before burnout sets in.
8+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years managing engineers directly
A track record of building and scaling teams, ideally from ~10 to 25–30 engineers, without losing speed or quality
Strong hands-on technical foundation in backend systems and distributed architecture; you can go deep on design reviews and earn engineers' trust
Proven hiring ability, including a network of strong engineers who would want to work with you again
Clear, opinionated thinking on what makes a great engineer and a great team, and the conviction to defend it
A people-first style: approachable, a strong listener, and calm under pressure, who credits the team and takes the heat when things break
Product sense: you care about what we build and why, not just how
Comfort working in a small, fast-moving startup with high ownership and little hierarchy
An AI-native mindset: you know how tools like Claude change team sizing, velocity and how engineers work
