Engineering Manager

Please note that to qualify for this role, you must be located in Poland and hold a valid work permit.
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who brings together three key areas: people leadership, delivery and engineering processes, and contribution to the wider IT organization and knows how to turn them into real impact. 
As an Engineering Manager, you’ll report to one of the IT Directors and act as part of IT leadership within the development teams. Working with up to three teams and 18 direct reports you’ll lead and grow people, shape the way teams work, and drive continuous improvements in development processes. Beyond your team, you’ll work closely with other Engineering Managers and Product Managers, contributing to initiatives that move IT forward. 
We’re looking for someone who thrives on change, brings energy, curiosity and proactivity to their work and knows how to inspire others to do the same. Active coding isn’t part of the role, but you’ll need enough technical depth to understand, challenge and evaluate technical decisions, support your engineers and ensure they deliver high-quality code.

Lead and support your teams 

• take ownership of team performance and key results, working closely with teams and Product Managers 

• monitor team progress, health and predictability across sprints, cycles and projects 

• drive continuous improvement of how the teams plan, work and deliver 

• identify and resolve problems, remove impediments and ensure teams have the tools and resources they need 

• take responsibility for hiring team budgets, visibility and recognition 

• support team culture and team-building activities 

• take care of the teams’ communication channels 

Develop and support people 

• take ownership of the performance and development of people in your teams 

• provide regular feedback and conduct performance evaluations, considering both soft skills and technical aspects 

• co-create career paths, set short- and long-term goals, and support people in achieving them 

• encourage continuous development and help people achieve better results 

• provide coaching and mentoring when needed and identify training needs 

• manage salaries, absences, expenses and bonuses 

Contribute to IT 

• represent IT within your teams and work closely with other Engineering Managers 

• contribute to the IT strategy and drive initiatives that develop and improve the department 

• support knowledge sharing across teams and people 

• support guild activities 

• 5+ years of experience in similar roles (e.g. Engineering Manager, Team Leader) 

• a proven track record in people management and leadership 

• experience with two or more programming languages or have played an important role on the technical side of software development 

• practical experience with GitLab, Jira, Claude / ChatGPT 

• a master's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience 

• excellent Polish language skills and English at B2+ level 

• a background as a developer or architect 

• experience working in-house for a product development company 

• a background in SaaS product companies 

• experience working in agile environments 

• open-minded and has a welcome-change attitude 

• ready to work in an inspect-and-adapt 

• positive, with high professional standards and a strong work ethic 

• passionate and creative as a modern IT manager 

• comfortable thinking outside the box 

• focused on high-quality solutions 

• able to inspire both juniors and experts with enthusiasm for technology 

• contract of employment: 17,430–27,020 PLN gross per month 

• B2B contract: 1,000–1,550 PLN net per man-day 

• we work in a hybrid model for those based in the Tri-City area; employees based outside the area work fully remotely
