Job Summary:

As an Engineering Manager at Freestar, you will head a team responsible for designing and developing the client-side components and pipelines that support our Machine Learning/AI data science operations within our ad tech platform. This platform serves a global audience, delivering ads across various channels and devices, and you will ensure its scalability, reliability, and high performance.

Your primary role will be to lead this engineering team, providing them with the guidance, support, and resources they need to be successful. You will manage developing and maintaining project plans and timelines, ensuring all projects are delivered on time and within budget. Working closely with Executives, product managers, and other stakeholders, you will define and prioritize the client-side features and technical requirements necessary to support the data science initiatives.

You will champion best practices in software development, including agile methodologies, test-driven development, and continuous integration and deployment. Additionally, you will mentor and develop top talent, nurturing our culture of excellence and ongoing learning.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers to develop and maintain the client-side infrastructure and pipelines necessary to support our ML/AI data science team.
  • Collaborate with product management and the data science team to define and prioritize in alignment with our business objectives.
  • Oversee project timelines and budgets, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of all components.
  • Promote and enforce best software development practices, particularly Agile, test-driven development, and CI/CD, to ensure robust and scalable solutions.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent, fostering a team well-versed in the latest technologies and methodologies.
  • Ensure close cooperation across functional teams, including product management, data science, and operations, to achieve seamless integration and functionality of the client-side solutions.
  • Manage technical debt and maintain high standards for quality, maintainable code that integrates smoothly with data science applications.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements in software development and machine learning to continuously improve our client-side capabilities.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field is required. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Proven experience in software development, with direct experience managing engineering teams preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript and Java.
  • Strong understanding of data technologies (e.g., BigQuery, SQL) and a practical knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services and architecture.
  • Experience with modern software development practices, including Agile methodologies, test-driven development, and continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).

Leadership Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage technical teams, ensuring project goals are met effectively and efficiently.
  • Skill in mentoring and coaching team members, helping them grow professionally and technically.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to align project objectives and technical solutions with business strategy.

Project Management and Communication Skills

  • Strong project management skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical ideas and strategies to a variety of stakeholders, from team members to executive level.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to think strategically about technological challenges and future project directions.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, with a knack for innovative solutions that streamline and optimize operational efficiency.
