Grammarly is excited to offer a remote-first hybrid working model. Grammarly team members in this role must be based in Germany, and, depending on business needs, they must meet in person for collaboration weeks, traveling if necessary to the hub(s) where their team is based.

This flexible approach gives team members the best of both worlds: plenty of focus time along with in-person collaboration that fosters trust and unlocks creativity.

Founded in 2009, Grammarly is No. 14 on the Forbes Cloud 100, one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies, one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in AI, and one of Inc.’s Best Workplaces.

The Opportunity

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Growth Monetization team. This role will manage and build on a team of engineers that crafts functionality for the suite of user-facing features across Grammarly’s portfolio of product offerings. The ideal candidate will take a metrics-driven approach to quality and feature prioritization, and they’ll improve team throughput by identifying and solving existing processes and technical challenges.

Grammarly’s engineers and researchers have the freedom to innovate and uncover breakthroughs—and, in turn, influence our product roadmap. The complexity of our technical challenges is growing rapidly as we scale our interfaces, algorithms, and infrastructure. You can hear more from our team on our technical blog.

As an Engineering Manager at Monetization, your work will be highly impactful and visible. You will help shape how users evaluate and purchase our Premium offering.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a team of engineers who will contribute directly to user and revenue growth by working on our monetization features.
  • Drive business impact by collaborating cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and designers via significant bet initiatives, iterative experimentation, and technical investments.
  • Hire, develop, and manage engineers by fostering a psychological safety, diversity, and inclusion culture. The role is essential in creating a highly productive, healthy, and enjoyable working environment for the team.
  • Be a sounding board for Growth strategy and tactics to create sustainable growth for the organization.

Qualifications

  • Has a strong track record of building and leading productive engineering teams.
  • Can systematically break down ambiguous problems and build execution plans.
  • Demonstrates strong technical judgment on engineering architecture and product decisions.
  • Leads by example and sets the right context for decisions.
  • Builds strong relationships with their direct reports and peers across the company.
  • Nurtures their team’s talent and raises the technical talent bar when recruiting for their team.
  • Sets and communicates priorities for themselves and their team while driving execution.
  • Cares deeply, not only about the work but also how that work is accomplished.
  • Thrives in environments where it’s necessary to make decisions with incomplete information but can change course when presented with new data.
  • Is curious and has a learning mindset.
  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Is inspired by our MOVE principles, which are the blueprint for how things get done at Grammarly: move fast and learn faster, obsess about creating customer value, value impact over activity, and embrace healthy disagreement rooted in trust.
  • Is able to meet in person for their team’s scheduled collaboration weeks, traveling if necessary to the hub where their team is based.

What We Do

Grammarly’s real-time writing assistance helps 30 million people and 30,000 teams write more clearly and effectively.
