We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager with expertise in Developer Experience (DevEx) and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will empower and support a team of engineers responsible for optimizing the developer experience by building efficient, reliable, and scalable tools and workflows. You will also guide SRE initiatives to enhance the reliability and performance of our software systems. Your technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic mindset will be critical in enhancing engineering productivity and delivering highly reliable services.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to foster their growth and maximize their potential.
  • Shape the technical vision and strategy for DevEx and SRE practices, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of developer-centric tools, platforms, and workflows to streamline code building, testing, and deployment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the internal developer experience and accelerate delivery cycles.
  • Champion the adoption of continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), and infrastructure as code (IaC) practices to improve developer efficiency and code quality.
  • Establish and monitor system performance, reliability, and availability, driving the adoption of SRE best practices to meet or exceed these targets.
  • Facilitate incident management and post-incident analysis efforts, identifying root causes, implementing preventive measures, and driving continuous improvement to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability.
  • Collaborate with the data engineering team to ensure adherence to security standards, data privacy regulations, and industry best practices in infrastructure design and operations.
  • Stay current with the latest trends and advancements in DevEx, SRE, and infrastructure automation, and advocate for their adoption within the organization.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and mitigation strategies related to DevEx and SRE initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on DevEx and SRE or infrastructure engineering.
  • Proven experience in managing and leading engineering teams, fostering collaboration, and driving results.
  • Strong technical background in developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and source control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Proficiency in monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack) for system performance and log analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of SRE methodologies, incident management, and post-incident analysis.
  • Familiarity with performance optimization, debugging, and reducing developer toil through automation.
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and experience implementing security controls in infrastructure environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • Reside within the Detroit, Michigan area or nearby, with the ability to work in a hybrid environment and regularly commute to our Detroit office as needed.

Compensation Range

Compensation may vary depending on skills and experience.

Base Salary: $131,700-$184,100
