Position Summary:

The Engineering Manager will lead the design and development of aircraft interior cabinetry and galley systems, ensuring that safety, functionality, manufacturability, and certification requirements are met. This role leads the development engineering team and partners with other functions to deliver on time solutions. The ideal candidate has strong technical leadership and experience developing aircraft interiors or complex cabinetry systems from concept through production.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Lead department activities to develop new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures while enforcing a positive and professional working environment
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and designers, fostering technical excellence and accountability
  • Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products
  • Establish design strategies that balance safety, weight, functionality, manufacturability, cost, and schedule within a formalized product development process
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable aviation regulations, customer requirements, and certification standards
  • Lead technical resolution of design issues, manufacturing challenges, and in-service problems
  • Collaborate with Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Certification, Supply Chain, and customers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Drive design standardization, continuous improvement, and development of innovative interior solutions
  • Champion engineering processes, tools, and best practices that improve product quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery and provide technical guidance on materials, hardware, structures, mechanisms, and manufacturing processes
  • Forecast operating costs to facilitate the preparation of the overall department budget.
  • Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations
  • Ensure correct interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to all engineering activities by the department
  • Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner
  • Forecast capacity and ensure projects are delivered on time for both external and internal customers.
  • Supervision of staff to include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees and addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Develop new and review existing policies, procedures, and practices for increased quality and efficiency.
  • Travel up to 10%
Qualifications

Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Ability to set priorities, track progress, meet deadlines, and multitask
  • Excellent organization skills with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent teamwork skills and high degree of initiative required
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal
  • Work independently and possess a high level of self-motivation and initiative
  • Working knowledge of FAA and MIL testing standards preferred
  • Experience with FAA and military certification
  • Must be proficient with MS Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience in SolidWorks and Enterprise PDM
  • Advanced knowledge of aerospace materials and standards and fabrication methods of aircraft cabinetry using composite materials

Education, Certifications and Experience:

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited institution with 10+ years’ related experience  
  • 4+years’ experience leading teams of design and/or certification engineers and managing engineering projects

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Working conditions are normal for that of a manufacturing/machine shop/office environment.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • 10 or more years of related engineering experience
  • At least 4 years leading teams of design and/or certification engineers and managing engineering projects
  • Experience with FAA and military certification
