About the Role:

The Kinetic Voice Engineering team is responsible for the implementation, expansion, augmentation, and interconnection strategy of Windstream's Kinetic voice infrastructure. The Voice Engineer will assume leadership of projects such as: new switch additions, switch hardware additions, switch translations, network trunking capacity/planning, routing, and switch software updates/changes. In addition, the position entails responsibility for peripheral equipment associated with the switch network; coordinating installation, testing, and troubleshooting of transmission facilities; and participating in cross-functional projects as scheduled. This includes all VoIP Switching, Signaling, Network Security, Application and Feature servers. The Voice Engineer will participate in the review of vendor proposals based on business needs and cost effectiveness and will also be responsible for lifecycle support and assist with migration, decommissioning, and modernization projects on EOL/EOS equipment. This role is also accountable for the creation, revision and maintenance of accurate and comprehensive network documentation, methods and procedures, test plans and serve as a technical resource for internal stakeholders (i.e., NOC, Service Assurance/Delivery, Architecture).

What You'll Do:

  • Provide support to Windstream's network and system architecture
  • Implement and manage new and existing Class 4, Class 5, and soft switch voice networks
  • Assist with voice network engineering support, planning, budgeting, installation, and integration into the network.
  • Complete testing and evaluation of vendor products and act as a third level support on equipment deployed by Windstream.
  • Network trouble isolation, problem solving, network activation, network design, vendor management, and planning of hardware/software upgrades and conversions to maintain and modernize the existing production voice network
  • Provides network analysis concerning usage trends, voice traffic metrics, capacity planning, and recurring events, as well as outage and incident patterns
  • Will focus on sustaining engineering, tactical planning, and implementation of TDM and Soft Switch solutions, including Voice performance Network Monitoring systems in the Windstream network

Do You Have?

  • Understanding of complex local and long-distance voice switching architectures
  • Ability to provide next level technical support for customer provisioning, repair, and operations stakeholders
  • IP and Ethernet routing and switching in a soft switch environment
  • Knowledge of the design, implementation, and support of Session Border Controllers, IAD and CPE, Media gateways, Feature and Application servers
  • Comprehensive understanding of WAN/LAN technologies, protocol, and transport services (OC12/3, DS3/1, ds, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, VLAN's).
  • Proficient in telephony routing and translations.
  • Strong understanding of SS7 hardware, signaling, SIP, and Stir/Shaken protocols
  • Proficiency in network diagnosis and troubleshooting utilizing a suite of network analysis tools (i.e., Wire Shark, Packet Captures, NetScout, etc.)
  • Responsible to drive problems to resolution, collaboratively working with the different divisions of the company and third-party vendors
  • Experience with the configuration of MetaSwitch, Lucent 5ESS, Nortel DMS10/100 and other core network elements
  • Experience supporting mission critical network services and time sensitive projects
  • Strong self-initiative and the ability to identify and resolve needs outside the primary job requirements
  • Experience with DMS-10, DMS-100/200, DMS-500, DCO, GTD-5, 5ESS, TOPS (OS/DA), SS7 Network Elements (STP, SSP, SRP), VoIP, Adjunct routers (ATM/PSAX 911/Voicemail), Soft switch
  • Ability to maintain technical competence by attending data seminars, training classes, and reading publications and journals as appropriate
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of management and administrators
  • Willingness and ability to travel upon occasion, as well as availability for after-hours works or on-call or maintenance related work
