About the Role:

The VP, Cloud Engineering and Operations will lead efforts in the design, implementation and operational support of our industry leading NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) data analysis and results platform. This visionary, leadership position will be the key contributor to the strategy and vision for both the internal DevOps infrastructure and commercial products. They will build the roadmap for the architecture, systems and tools required to have a best-in-class NGS product.

The ideal candidate will have experience mentoring and developing a strong team and will be able to quickly establish credibility. They will have the ability to bridge short term goals with longer term strategy and communicate it to a wide audience.

A positive, engaging and goal-oriented management style with a passion for making a difference in the world using scientific rigor and compute power are essential to success in this position.

Remote candidates based in the United States, as well as those based in the greater Redwood City, CA or Denver, CO areas, are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide hands-on leadership of the cloud engineering and DevOps teams, with a willingness to get your hands dirty to show your team members how it’s done.
  • Provide the vision, roadmap and support the implementation of our commercial SaaS product.
  • Enable the DevOps experience by transforming culture from legacy practices
  • Work closely with other cross functional leaders to make sure we are building the right thing at the right time
  • Provide leadership and experience in securing infrastructure, code and data
  • Grow the existing team balanced with external partnerships
  • Work closely with other technology leaders, most particularly in the execution of products and features that operate across multiple parts of our stack.

Qualifications: 

  • 7+ years managing high-performing technical teams in an environment of rapid development and company growth.
  • 5+ years experience specifically managing teams focused on DevOps and/or Cloud based engineering
  • 5-7 years experience using AWS and GCP cloud products in a production environment
  • Proven experience defining a well thought out organizational strategy and executing on an associated operational plan.
  • Must possess cloud industry experience and presentation-ready knowledge of popular cloud platforms and related industry trends
  • Ability to dissect complicated technical problems, simplify experiences and innovate on behalf of our customers through demonstrated automation
  • Experience with taking a product to market
  • Excellent Leadership skills including:
    • Great at mentoring, coaching as well as being a diversity champion.
    • Ability to manage senior staff as well as manage staff remotely across multiple locations, time zones and cultures.
    • Highly detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to embrace change without frustration.
    • Experience leading re-organization and uniting teams to work collaboratively.
    • Ability to communicate a compelling vision and inspire others to deliver on an ambitious, complex, global roadmap.
    • Strong analytical, strategic thinking and communication skills - must have ability to synthesize, develop and present clear and concise recommendations.
  • Experience working in a team using Agile development and project management practices.
  • Demonstrated ability with Cloud system compliance preferably within; AWS trusted advisor, Private/Public system groups, data encryption

At this time, we can only consider applicants with authorization to work in the United States on a permanent, full-time basis; unfortunately, we cannot provide visa sponsorship.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $270,000 to $280,000 per year.

Compensation for this role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location, and may fall outside of the range shown.
