Company Overview:

Relativity is the first and only company to automate aerospace manufacturing by integrating intelligent robotics, software, and proprietary metal 3D printing technology. Disrupting 60 years of aerospace, Relativity offers a radically simplified supply chain, building a rocket with 100x fewer parts in less than 60 days. Our long-term goal is to upgrade humanity’s industrial base on Earth and on Mars.

Team:

Relativity is creating the first autonomous rocket factory. Our vision is to build the future of humanity in space – starting with rockets. We have an ambitious mission, and we understand that it takes a team to achieve it. This is why we are growing and looking for team members to join us that feel just as excited and driven to accomplish something that has not been done before, together.

The Integration team at Relativity Space pulls together the efforts of all other vehicle and manufacturing teams to deliver flight-ready vehicles for test and launch. To meet our goals, we will build best in class manufacturing, test, and quality control processes to keep our team moving fast while still producing high quality, well understood products. The Vehicle Test Engineers will be responsible for defining and executing the vehicle test verification plan for all hardware that comes through the Integration work center — delivering flight articles ready for test or launch. This role lives within the Integration Engineering team which will drive efforts to establish the manufacturing and business practices and processes necessary to accomplish that goal. Partnering with vehicle-level Integration engineers, the Vehicle Test team will be the focal points for ensuring the first rockets built in our factory are primed and ready for their first orbital flight.

What you’ll do:

  • Own integrated test plan from conceptualization thru Integration to shipment—lay out the test flow to ensure an efficient, high-quality product flow capable of scaling with time which is lockstep with the Integration engineers’ assembly plan.
  • Drive the assembly’s first integration effort through design integration, test sequencing, documentation strategy, and test procedure generation.
  • Establish a testing approach within the inaugural work cell by considering assembly operations, tooling and capital equipment requirements, and rate targets
  • Manage the assembly build, integration, and non-reactive testing of the world's first 3D printed rocket, delivering flight ready stages to the test and launch sites
  • Author test procedures and act as test conductor to verify as-installed hardware health and build integrity alongside with Vehicle Test Engineers
  • Assist with developing the business tools and processes that will be used to manufacture the first launch vehicle. In parallel, help to define and pilot the long-term ERP, MES, and QMS solutions that will enable high-quality, efficient vehicle manufacturing.
  • Develop strong working relationships with both Engineering and Factory Development teams to ensure all company objectives can be met
  • Leverage software and automation to rapidly integrate and check out stages while maintaining an accurate record of the as-planned and as-built configurations

What you need to know:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience building and testing hardware in a NPI manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive experience authoring work instructions and/or test procedures to build and checkout interdisciplinary aerospace hardware and software.
  • Experience building and working with DAQs for test article command/control and data gathering.
  • Experience interfacing with design engineering, manufacturing, and production personnel.
  • Experience planning and test conducting hardware-critical operations through use of TRRs.
  • Working knowledge of rocket subsystems including structures, mechanisms, high pressure gas systems, and avionics.
  • Expert in at least 2 of the following: software architecture and configurations, GUIs (Labview based), low power/high power electrical testing, systems engineering, configuration management, high pressure fluids testing, e/GSE design and build

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Self-starter that has demonstrated the ability to define and own a process from scratch and roll out that process through adept communication to a diverse team.
  • New product introduction of an aerospace hardware system into a manufacturing, test, and production system with proven success
  • Experience developing user interfaces for manufacturing and test execution
  • Experience extracting hardware and software test requirements from multiple engineering groups to form a cohesive, integrated test plan.
  • Experience owning test campaigns from cradle to grave.
  • Working knowledge of typical manufacturing execution systems and quality management systems.
