Job Summary

Engineer will conduct reservoir performance evaluations involving numerical reservoir simulation, rate and pressure transient analysis, petrophysical analysis, and geomechanical modeling. Engineer will also coordinate those evaluations with laboratory tests, field data collection, and EOS modeling software to evaluate the feasibility of EOR. These tasks will be necessary to design, implement and evaluate EOR pilot tests and potential. The engineer may be called on to provide expert testimony in regulatory hearings.

Serves as a resource within functional area. Guides others in resolving complex issues; may lead functional teams or projects. Advanced knowledge of fundamental theories, principles and practices in the area of specialization. Solves complex problems without precedent and/or structure; takes a broad perspective to identify solutions. Works independently, with guidance in complex situations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review performance of ongoing industry EOR projects and identify EOR opportunities for exploitation on CLR owned assets and acquisition targets
  • Support the development of screening criteria for potential unconventional EOR projects
  • Research, develop and document processes and workflows for duties required
  • Assist in budget preparation for anticipated projects
  • Identify, design, oversee and potentially conduct a variety of data collection and laboratory testing activities in support of EOR feasibility studies and EOR pilot evaluation.
  • Use numerical reservoir simulation and PVT software, rate and pressure transient analysis and geomechanical modeling as tools to conduct engineering studies to evaluate the potential of various EOR processes and to evaluate EOR pilot performance.
  • Perform petrophysical analysis to support geomechanical modeling, and reservoir characterization.
  • Support, design and oversee reservoir engineering aspects of field pilot testing activities in cooperation with asset team and operations personnel.
  • Evaluate pilot performance, identify and recommend appropriate actions to optimize performance.
  • Reach solid conclusions and recommend projects consistent with engineering studies and company strategy. Communicate recommendations lucidly and succinctly to management and garner support for projects.
  • Provide exhibits and expert testimony at regulatory hearings supporting company EOR projects.

Skills and Competencies

  • Outstanding verbal, written and presentation skills coupled with a strong work ethic.
  • Advanced skills using CMG, PVT, Harmony and GOHFER or similar industry software.
  • Ability to integrate data from various sources and results from various analyses into reservoir and/or geomechanical models.
  • Advanced understanding of PVT properties, especially under conditions of miscibility or near-miscibility.
  • Excellent computer skills including ability to efficiently manipulate large data sets and analyze field and laboratory data.
  • Working knowledge of economic programs (ARIES or similar industry software) preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University in either Mechanical, Chemical or Petroleum Engineering
  • At least 8 years of experience in oil and gas operations. Advanced degree or other technical or specialized skill training/certification may be required in some positions.
  • Must possess over 5 years of experience with numerical reservoir simulation, rate and pressure transient analysis, and geomechanical modeling.
  • At least 3 years of industry EOR experience.



Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PHD in Petroleum Engineering with 5 years of industry reservoir engineering experience
  • At least 3 years of industry EOR experience



Physical Requirements

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
