What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

The SCOPE SRE team has all the challenges of running diverse workloads at massive scale with an added dimensionofmeeting some of the most stringentsecurity and compliance requirementsin existence today. This truly is a unique opportunity to applyyourSREskills and mindset todifficult, but rewarding, engineering challenges that exist in only a handful of other environments.It will giveyou a chanceto push the bounds of your security and compliance knowledge while at the same time growing coreSREcompetencies around building and running systems with SLAs thatare critical to the success of our customers.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Success for the SCOPE SRE teamwill come viaa close partnership with other product engineering teamsto help themachieve key complianceonboardingmilestones in the environments we manage and maintain SLAsin both system availability and vulnerability remediation objectives.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

• Define consistent monitoring, metrics and alerting across different micro-services (Docker-Kubernetes, Serverless)

• Focus on observability with an eye to quicker resolution of production issues

• Work closely with development teams to improve maintainability and reliability of services

• Maintain SCOPE cloud services by performing service updates using CI/CD tools

• Handle seamless upgrades of infrastructure and services through automation

• Identify, gather, analyze and automate responses to key performance metrics, logs, and alerts

• Ensure compliance with appropriate security standards

• Conduct post-mortems to analyze failures and prevent recurrence

• Provide service support by participating in regular on-call shifts responding to service issues

Shaun Zinck is the hiring manager for this role. Shaun recently joined VMware to add his industry expertise to this fast-growing group.
