Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). Position Description:

The Senior Systems Integration Engineer will provide a rigorous and overarching engineering structure within which to conduct the design, development, test, and evaluation of the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) and the Block 1B (B1B) systems within the Space Launch System (SLS) Block 1B Development Office (B1BDO).

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the chief integrator for the SLS EUS and interface with the vehicle systems engineering and integration (SE&I) point of contact and the EUS Lead Systems Engineer. Responsible for affecting change in this arena and enforcing a lean vision with respect to SE&I.
  • Serve as the Chief Communications Officer for B1B and be responsible for all status reports up and out.
  • Coordinate between NASA and prime contractor teams to achieve broader SE&I objectives. Provide structured design reviews consistent with NASA and MSFC standards.
  • Provide insight into contractor systems analysis and systems integration activities.
  • Help to develop the technical requirements for the EUS to include coordination with the project office and with the contractor requirements development personnel and products.
  • Coordinate planning for requirement verification activities leading to flight-certified hardware.
  • Integrate with other SLS and Engineering organizations to coordinate and obtain the necessary information to produce documents that meet the Program/Project requirements and assist in the review and approvals of documents.
  • Work in conjunction with the EUS SE&I Subsystem Manager on all department SE&I functions and tasks.
  • Support the development and execution of the Project's processes and procedures related to Systems Engineering.
  • Travel to suppliers for reviews, and travel for B1BDO reviews as needed.



Qualifications

Qualifications:

A degree in Engineering, Science or a related field is required. Degree from an ABET accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 14 years of experience; Masters with at least 18 years of experience, or a BS with at least 20 years of experience.

The following skills and experience are required:

  • Experience in product project leadership within a highly technical field.
  • Excellent technical and business acumen.
  • Excellent communication and relational skills.
  • Working knowledge of NASA processes and procedures.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (
Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
