General Summary:
Researches, designs, develops, and tests operating systems-level software and/or hardware. Designs and coordinates complex engineering projects at the system level. Performs functional decomposition to drive requirements and specifications to both hardware and software. Analyzes information to determine, recommend, and plan installation of a new system or modification of an existing system. Ensures system-level performance and power metrics are met. Drives triage of problems at the system level to determine root cause.

Minimum Qualifications:• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 7+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 5+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:• Master's Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field. • 12+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience. • 3+ years of experience with Development Environment Software such as Apache Maven, Ruby, etc.• 3+ years of experience with Database Management Software. • 3+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization. • 3+ years of experience with Testing Software such as Bugzilla, LoadRunner, etc.• 2+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above). • 2+ years of supervisory experience. • 1+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:• Leads complex analyses, reviews analyses completed by others to identify where an issue has occurred, makes recommendations for how to address issues, and identifies patterns and implications for work.• Independently gathers, integrates, and interprets information from a variety of sources (other project teams, technical leads) in order to troubleshoot issues and creates and implements a solution to those issues.• Drives technical conversation.• Collaborates with project teams or with external teams to accomplish project objectives.• Troubleshoots highly complex issues across multiple disciplines in systems design architecture, understands the element in order to fix issues, and puts best practice plans in place to implement those solutions.• Identifies feature requirements based on discussions with internal and external teams and clients and synthesizes information to create a plan of action for project team.• Presents system solution, bug fix, design approach, or other complex information within and outside of project team.• Decides on complex coding associated with systems architecture, and understands trade-offs, plans, and implications of actions, and implements the best practice solution to those issues.• Leads the collection of information with team members, identifies fundamental patterns/trends in systems design, the areas as to what needs to be collected, and the how of this process.• Helps team members to determine which work tasks are most important, avoid distractions, and deal with setbacks in a timely manner.• Identifies bugs in highly complex systems architecture and framework design developed by own team, other teams, and across disciplines; fixes bugs or makes recommendations on how to address them when appropriate; understands implications of the bugs, including what needs to happen and how future design would be affected, and applies best practices.• Networks with colleagues within and outside domain to gain insight, ideas, and connections.• Communicates within and outside of project team to resolve conflicts in implementation schedules, design challenges, and other complexities.• Designs, implements, tests the framework and automation of feature issues, replicates or resolves complex issues, and applies best practices across multiple projects/disciplines for effective usage.

Level of Responsibility:• Working independently with little supervision.• Making decisions that are significant in impact; errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results; errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct.• Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. May require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.• Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions).• Completing tasks that require multiple steps that can be performed in various orders; tasks require simultaneously executing multiple cognitive abilities and maintaining information in short- or long-term memory.• Exercising exceptional creativity to innovate new ideas and develop innovative products/processes without established objectives or known parameters.• Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required.• Occasionally participates in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations.
