About The Team
The Uber Metal team manages the Data Center Infrastructure service to keep Uber's innovation running. The team builds the hardware and software solution as the base layer of compute resources for developers, riders, and drivers to rely on every day.
Sr Product Engineer is a key role which can influence cross-team cross-functional initiatives related to hardware engineering.
What You'll Do
• Manage complex and large-scale Hardware engineering design projects with ODM partners. Lead the development through EVT, DVT, PVT phases, and rack-level validation with internal HW engineering teams, SW engineering teams, data center teams, and ODM engineering teams.
• Understand technical implementation at a high-level and ask questions that clarify priorities and push the team to be highly effective.
• Triage and Drive detailed technical problem solving for the cross-functional teams and track progress against the plans.
• Work with key stakeholders to develop strategic initiatives and then work to evolve those initiatives into detailed programs/project plans (including roadmaps, funding planning, resource planning, and hiring goals).
• Continuously improve and scale the organization by capturing lessons learned, acting on them and communicating them out for new projects.
• Manage budget and drive program communications across leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Interface with engineering managers and engineers to estimate work efforts, define milestones and manage resources. Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks and communicate status to upper management and project stakeholders.
• Proactively drive results by identifying communication gaps, managing escalations and providing support to teams.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, a similar related field or equivalent experience
• Solid technical aptitude and an ability to understand technical hardware related issues from Commodity and ODM standpoint.
• Experienced in project management. Familiar with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies and able to apply them where best suited.
Preferred Qualifications
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a technical program manager or engineering manager in a hardware specific role driving projects for server, storage or networking systems.
• Experience with server deployment in datacenter environment
• Technical program management experience at an established company with a strong TPM team.
• Former Hardware System Engineering and/or experience with ODM hardware
• Strong organizational skills to juggle many tasks without losing sight of the highest priority items
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional emotional intelligence demonstrated through an ability to influence and motivate people across a broad variety of job functions through your relationships.
• Analytical and truth seeking. Ability to understand complex concepts and make reasoned decisions objectively.
