A DAY IN THE LIFE:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Manages System Test Engineering staff by recruiting, training and coaching employees. Responsible for software systems test planning, test developing, and testing. Communicates company goals, safety practices, and deadlines to direct reports. Motivates employees and assesses performance. Responsible for hiring and training, team performance metrics, and related management tasks. Communicates concerns and policies among management and team members. This role oversees multiple projects.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for hiring processes and organizing new team member training activities.
  • Responsible for the training and mentoring of other managers within the team.
  • Provides strategic direction, effective delegation and mentorship to team members.
  • Estimates, prioritizes and coordinates system test activities to align with company objectives and priorities.
  • Provides estimates of effort and timelines to management.
  • Prepares and presents reports to senior management outlining the outcome of technical projects and makes recommendations for actions necessary to achieve desired results.
  • Works with developers to improve application testability.
  • Negotiates with other departments as needed and considers company-wide impacts in decision making.
  • Supports the short-term planning for the department including headcount, budgeting, training, and systems requirements.
  • Participates in the selection, development, performance appraisal, merit recommendation, and promotion of staff.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement within the software process, discusses with peers, and implements proposals to address gaps.
  • Develops and assists with implementation of systems validation test plans.
  • Evaluates system configuration and network infrastructure ensuring that it meets business needs and specifications
  • Collaborates with developers and systems engineers on software specifications and controls.
  • Evaluate test environments and monitoring.
  • Design manual and automated test procedures to evaluate software systems.
  • Work with automation team members to provide support to software development teams.
  • Oversees and prepares software test reports including pass/fail product evaluations.
  • Oversees and performs and documents software test audits in compliance with test plan procedures.
  • Assists systems and product development engineers in the diagnosis and replication of product failures.
  • Identifies actual or potential problems in test plans.
  • Efficiently manages own time to complete work and associated paperwork by assigned completion dates.
  • Records and compiles data for documentation of test procedures and prepares reports.
  • Reviews data for compliance to specifications and report abnormalities.
  • Confirms completion of required training plan before assuming job responsibilities
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with company policies including Privacy/HIPAA and other regulatory, legal, and safety requirements.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Knowledge, skills & abilities:


  • Ability to read and follow procedures and flow diagrams.
  • Able to effectively share information regarding issues in written or verbal form and making recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Skilled at promoting team cooperation and a commitment to team success.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and handle multiple priorities and complete assignments on time and with minimal errors.
  • Working knowledge of requirements management software
  • Agile development experience, including use of Atlassian products
  • Experience with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).



  1. Minimum certifications/educational level:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Sciences or related field, or equivalent combination of education and years of applicable experience.


  1. Minimum experience:


  • Knowledgeable of software life cycle models other than "waterfall".
  • 8 plus years' experience in software quality or test engineering
  • 5 plus years' systems analysis and/or integration experience
  • Experience as a test editor, test writer and creating new tests.
  • Ability to write test of varying complexity
  • Experience coordinating activities between testers and editors.
  • Experience in proof reading, following detailed work instructions and projects requiring critical thinking skills.



JOB SCOPE:

  • Establishes operational objectives and work plans and delegates assignments to subordinates. Senior management reviews objectives to determine success of operation. Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.
  • Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.
  • Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations.
