Job Overview

The Industrial and Commercial Transportation Business provides rugged interconnect solutions specifically designed for Truck, Bus, Agriculture, Construction and Recreational Vehicles.

We are seeking a Product Development Engineer to develop new products for our customers with duties including everything from assisting in market definition through detailed design into production release.

Job Responsibilities

Requirements and Qualifications

Responsibilities• Work closely with cross functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, Project Management, Sales, and Finance• Interact with customers to establish product requirements and establish strong relationships• Develop an understanding of data connectivity applications and market trends within our industry including the assessment of competitive and emerging technologies• Create concepts to meet customer needs as well as internal process and cost requirements• Ensure product solutions are mechanically and electrically robust, best practice is followed, and design reuse is leveraged• Establish and manage schedules for engineering deliverables• Model intricate plastic and stamped metal components in PTC Creo• Perform tolerance analyses ensuring product performance and manufacturing feasibility• Work with the team to produce prototypes and design verification samples• Design product verification test plans and interface with test labs to get testing completed• Identify and manage design risks including the completion of DFMEAs• Resolve issues as needed during production launch

What your background should look like:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years engineering experience• Experience with PTC Creo and new product development activities• Knowledge of Commercial Vehicle or Automotive terminal and connector products• Experience with terminal and connector requirements & testing• Knowledge of Six Sigma and LEAN production techniques• Experience with small precision plastic part design• Knowledge of thermoplastics and thin copper alloy materials• Familiarity with molding, stamping and assembly processes• Fluent in English• Familiarity with high speed data topics is a plus (e.g., coaxial and twisted pair cable, signal integrity issues such as Insertion and Return Loss, Mode Conversion, Cross Talk and Cross Conversion, shielding and dielectric materials, etc.)• Experience with design for rugged environments including sealing and vibration resistance is a plus
