Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Sr. Design & Drawing Quality Engineer for their Experimental Systems Group (ESG) Satellite Systems Team in Seal Beach, CA. This position will support the development of new, first-of-kind space vehicles and missions.   

Develops and interprets engineering product definition data (e.g., detail, assembly and installation drawings, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) 3D and 2D data, Bill of Material (BOM) etc.).  Validates accuracy of peer drawings.  Develop and/or check completed product definition data to Company and industry standards including GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and Drawing Practices per ASME Y14.100. Position requires an active TS/SCI clearance. This position will include design engineering support of complex space vehicle systems as well as checking other engineers’ work.  Should be familiar with Product Data Manager Systems and CAD 3D and 2D data creation. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide detail and assembly/installation designs in support of program requirements

  • Check and validate accuracy and tolerances of engineering peers’ drawings against company and industry standards.

  • Interprets engineering product definition data (e.g., detail, assembly and installation drawings, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) data, Bill of Material (BOM) etc.) to validate accuracy of drawings and completed product definition data to Company and industry standards, including GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and Drawing Practices per ASME Y14.100.

  • Follows established product definition data processes.

  • Verifies product/part structure and configuration management of product components.

  • Coordinates process requirements and red lines with impacted parties.

  • Communicates with management on status of design drawings for Earned Value Management (EVM).

  • Provides guidance on product definition data creation methods to other engineers.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): 

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree in an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • 7+ years of experience in an engineering discipline

  • 7+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.

  • 1+ year of experience working with CAD

  • 2+ years of experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Teamcenter Unified experience

  • Siemens NX CAD tool

  • Experience checking engineering drawings to industry standards

  • Model Based Definition (MBD) in 3D CAD models

  • Experience working in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment

Typical Education/Experience:

Typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
