Image Scientists are responsible for providing image expertise in support of developing analytical processes and tools as well as assessing image quality impacts associated with collection and processing for dissemination, archival, exploitation and display of digital imagery. An image scientist focused on Modeling, Simulation, & Analysis (MSA) works to model image sensing systems, utilizes those models to simulate data produced by the systems, and analyzes simulated results in comparison to desired data quality.
Essential Functions:
- Provides image science expertise to conduct image/product quality analysis throughout TCPED chain.
- Assess utility of image processing routines and advanced algorithms operating on today's baseline and emerging remote sensing systems.
- Investigates, analyzes, and provides solutions to complex problems encountered by engineering services and quality control using standard engineering practices.
- Authors technical documents and presentations
- Ability to perform system trade studies based on first principals
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Optics, Physics, Imaging Science, Mathematics, or Engineering equivalent with 2 years of experience; or 0-2 years relevant experience with a Graduate Degree.
- 2+ Years' Experience with Solid mathematical background with relevancy to signal processing, image processing, or statistical analysis.
- 0-2 Years' Experience with MATLAB, Python, UNIX based scripting, and/or C++ programming.
- 0-2 Year's Experience in data and problem analysis, creative problem solving and design thinking.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- At least 1 year of experience working with remotely sensed data
- An understanding of image processing techniques and software tools.
- Knowledge of ground processing architectures and image processing algorithms for passive remote sensing systems.
- Experience as a Technical Contributor developing solutions for customers, e.g. image processing algorithms, engineering tools to interrogate/measure various characteristics of image data.
- Ability to develop engineering-level (not production-level) software routines in Python, C, C++, or MATLAB.
- Exposure to analysis, exploitation, advanced processing of Visible and IR electro-optical (EO) systems.
- Experience with 3D model creation or use of 3D models in scene creation
- Experience with DIRSIG for scene simulation generation
