Software Tester

Position Description:

Plans, designs, develops, and conducts testing of software applications to ensure compliance and conformance with Section 508 requirements and standards, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Works with project team members to develop required Section 508 test plans and test documents. Analyzes non-conformance issues and makes recommendations for corrective actions. Identifies and communicates project risks proactively. Works in an Agile environment and serves as Scrum Master for software sustainment efforts.

  • Work closely with software developers through requirements, design, and development to develop and implement procedures for Section 508 testing.
  • Develop and design tests processes and procedures used to ensure that software and applications operate within Section 508 requirements.
  • Identify and investigate issues found during testing to resolve defects.
  • Report issues to developers and assist in troubleshooting.
  • Review and analyze system specifications.
  • Evaluate software code according to specifications.
  • Create reports to document testing phases and defects.
  • Work with software developers to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Interact with stakeholders to understand application requirements.
  • Work with developers in an Agile Scrum environment.
  • Participate in design reviews and sprint ceremonies, providing input on requirements, product design, and potential problems.
  • Performs analysis of documented user requirements and directs or assists in the design of test plans in support of user requirements for moderately complex to complex software or IT systems.
  • May participate in all phases of risk management assessment and software/hardware development.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the test design and documentation support all applicable clients, agency or industry standards time lines and budgets.
  • Responsible for ensuring that testing conclusions and recommendations are fully supported by test results and project managers are fully informed of testing status and application deviations from documented user requirements.



Position Requirements/Qualifications:

Education and Certifications

  • Associates Degree or higher in an IT-related field of study. In lieu of a degree, additional experience may be used.
  • Ability to obtain USSS Suitability Clearance.
  • DoD Secret Clearance - Preferred.
  • 3+ years of Software Testing experience ensuring compliance with 508 requirements - Required.
  • Certified Scrum Master certification - Preferred.
  • DHS Trusted Tester for Web and Software Certification - Preferred.



Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Section 508 software requirements and standards, including WCAG success criteria.
  • Demonstrated Section 508 testing experience for various applications, including web pages, portal applications, .Net applications, etc.
  • Experience developing test scripts in Selenium for the automation of regression testing.
  • Experience working with other team members in a Agile team environment.
  • Experience serving as a Scrum Master for small teams.
  • Experience analyzing user needs and assisting developers in implementing user requirements.
  • Experience supporting a federal client (preferred).
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, ability to work independently, self-motiates, proactive team player.
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
