About the role:
Uber's business relies on insights derived from real-time data by using Streaming Analytics. Our team powers many core trip flow applications with 4 9 availability, such as surge pricing for marketplace, push notifications to Apps, ETA calculations for maps. To support different use cases at Uber, we provide two offerings, AthenaX and FaaS. AthenaX is a SQL based self-service platform to all of the audiences at Uber. With AthenaX, non-tech users can build a realtime pipeline within minutes. FaaS is a development framework for advanced user cases. We currently support 90+ services, and 2800 pipelines in our platforms. We are expanding our scope on different aspects of the system, including zero downtime upgrade, unification of stream and batch, common DSL for streaming analytics and streaming ingestion for data warehouse. We are looking for internal candidates who are interested in these technologies to grow together with the team.
About the Team:
Our team built two streaming platforms, AthenaX and Flink as a Service (FaaS) on top of Apache Flink that powers many core trip flow applications with 4 9 availability and sub second latency, such as surge pricing for marketplace, push notifications to Apps, ETA calculations for maps.
Our team has grown a lot in the last few years (currently 2K+ yarn nodes, 2800+ pipelines). As part of the Athena team, you will design, implement, optimize, and manage large scale distributed computing infrastructure, for example zero downtime upgrade, unification of stream and batch, common DSL for streaming analytics and streaming ingestion for data lake that will impact multiple business use cases at Uber scale. At the same time, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the open source community for Flink and Presto.
Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field OR 1-year full-time Software Engineering work experience, WHICH INCLUDES 1-year total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)
• Note the 1-year total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The year of specialized experience is not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated.
