CAE Engineer

Job Summary:

Our client in Franklin, MI is looking for a CAE Engineer. This is a Direct Hire position.

What You Will Do:

The Extrusion Tooling & Process Simulation Engineer will use industrial software tools to perform extrusion die flow modeling, including static and dynamic tool loading, to optimize die flow, die life, extrusion performance and development time. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing to provide solutions to correlate empirical results to simulation.

  • Extrusion die flow modeling to optimize aluminum flow through tooling for productivity, tool life and dimensional stability.
  • Static and dynamic modeling to improve tooling deflection and tool life.
  • Process modeling to optimize extrusion process parameters, reducing development time to market (reducing trials) and improving performance.
  • Develop basic modeling competence for industrial packages for a future ability to transfer the knowledge to manufacturing sites.
  • Collaboratively work with cross functional teams for extrusion die and process simulation, including development of alternative tooling design solutions.
  • Timely and efficient documentation for knowledge retention and transfer.
  • Develop catalog of extrusion die design solutions by product families, allowing for improved time to market for new extrusion profiles.


Basics:

  • Three to Five years minimum experience simulating metal flow in real world manufacturing processes, aluminum extrusion experience preferred.
  • 3D CAD, familiarity with pre and post processing methods and tools.
  • Experience with industrial extrusion modeling software such as Altair HyperExtrude, QForm or DeForm is desirable, similar required.
  • Experience correlating simulation results with real word processes.
  • Experience documenting and presenting simulation project results including recommendations and conclusions.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Through process material modeling using software such as ProCast, ThermoCalc, JMatPro and Pandit CompuTherm or similar is an additional benefit.
  • Basic understanding of tool design and process variables.
  • Basic understanding of measurement devices and GD&T knowledge.
