Senior Materials and Processes Engineer, Advanced Structures

At Relativity, we re-imagine the way rockets are built and flown. The Materials and Processes Team plays a crucial role in this mission by evaluating and improving the materials that make our rockets. We are searching for a Senior Materials and Processes Engineer, Advanced Structures who will be responsible for serving as the primary M&P focal for all engineering activities on the launch vehicle structures product line.
What you’ll do:
- Serve as the primary M&P focal for all engineering activities on the launch vehicle structures product line
- Select, qualify, and implement conventional and novel materials and processes
- Develop, implement, and maintain technical specifications and engineering standards across the company
- Draft and execute statistically driven experimental design and process improvement campaigns
- Support failure analysis and non-conformance resolution activities
- Interface with:
- R&D staff to identify, define, and fill technology gaps
- Laboratory staff to characterize materials and processes
- Designers to support design and drawing reviews
- Manufacturing engineering to improve processes, troubleshoot issues, and facilitate operations
- Quality assurance to facilitate specification compliance validation
- Supply chain management to evaluate and audit suppliers
- Leadership to elevate risks and overcome roadblocks
What you need to know:
- Bachelor’s degree in materials science or engineering, or a related field
- 4+ years of professional experience with structural aerospace materials and processes’
- Foundational understanding of metallurgical principles (e.g. structure-property relationships, basic thermodynamics and kinetics)
Nice to haves but not required:
- 7-30 years of professional experience with structural aerospace materials and processes
- Thorough understanding of aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and Fe/Ni/Co-based superalloy metallurgy
- Strong fundamental knowledge of metallic joining processes
- Understanding of cryogenic material properties
- Familiarity with non-destructive evaluation techniques and limitations
- Experience performing LOX/LNG compatibility assessments
- Proven track record developing and executing corrosion control measures
- Solid background in design of experiments and statistical process control
- Highly accountable and execution-focused
- Comfortable supporting interdisciplinary teams as the sole source of M&P knowledge, guidance, and restrictions
- Desire to guide and mentor less experienced engineers
- Wholistic and inclusive approach to people/team/culture development
- Capable of balancing impartiality with respect for others’ viewpoints
